What this ProBlogger Mom Does in One Day

Branded by Lori | March 13, 2008 .

Yeah, I’m talking about myself.  Maybe I don’t make the BIG bucks like Darren or even John Cow, but I make enough to pay all my own bills, as well as, cool stuff for me and my kiddos.  Should I be considered a Problogger? Well, let’s see…..

  • I earn well over $800 a month now.  Not bad for only blogging 1 year and starting out with not having a freakin’ clue what a blog was!
  • I maintain 3 blogs daily but have 6.
  • My blogging hours are 8+.

I would say that qualifies me as a Problogger.  Now what about being a Problogger Mom??  That’s 100 times the work so I figured I’d share with you what my day went like yesterday since John Cow and Hyder shared their day with us.

Everyday varies.  Some days we are hauling cattle, riding, and fixing fence.  What ever is done, everything here is done every single day.

I wake at 5:00am.  I don’t have to but I do so I can get some blogging in before my youngest wakes up. He’s 17mths old.  I read, answer emails, and check stats until 6:00am, when I wake my 2 oldest kids. They are 14 yrs. & 11yrs.  I make coffee the da’ man of the house, feed the dogs, and plan my menu for the day.  I must do this so I can have something defrosted to cook for lunch and supper.  I go back to blogging until about 7:30am and then the lil’ man wakes up.  He wanted to cuddle yesterday morning, so we cuddled for about 20 minutes.  I started some laundry and hung the ones that were already done.  I had to sweep and mop and, of course, I stop to check emails by this time.  I don’t have to, but I NEED to.  It’s an addiction that I just can’t break…kinda like my Dr. Pepper one!

I make breakfast for lil’ man and throw him in the bath because he got syrup all over him from eating ‘made from scratch’ pancakes.  NOPE, I don’t use the box or microwavable.  While he’s taking a bath, I am sitting on the toilet writing in my notebook, about post ideas for the week and making a to do list.  Yep, it’s all wet but I gotta do something while just sitting there.  I finish his bath up, get him dressed, and turn him loose.

While the youn’un is playing, I’m switching out laundry and finally getting dressed myself.  We head to the post office, which is about 20 minutes away.  We say hello, grab a DP, and back to the house.  It’s time for lunch.  Yesterday was easy.  I made my man some german sausage w/potato burritos.  While my man is in the house with lil man, I headed out to the barn to brush some mane and tails.  This is a daily chore that I do to keep them looking pretty.  I come back in and me and lil man read and color for a bit.  Guess what?…WOOHOO….It’s finally nap time!!! YEAH!!!  He naps for 2 hrs so this is my time on the computer.  I update posts, answer more emails, try to comment in the forums and other blogs.

Nap is over.  We make a peanut & jelly sandwhich and head outside to play.  We do this until about 4:30.  My oldest had track practice so as soon as the middle son got home, which is about 4:30, I took off to Van Horn, 30 minutes away, to get my son from practice.  To kill time until practice is over, I go to the grocery store and get what we need, get gas, and feed for the animals.  I can see Tyler having to do the relay start over and over again.  He’s also holding his leg.  I guess it hurts.  What a winnie!  I guess if it got so bad, I could hire one those Scranton personal injury lawyers to let the coach know he’s working his butt of too hard.  NAH, Tyler needs to work his butt off!  Especially since his principal gave hime swats yesterday!  5:30, Tyler is done, we drive home passing DOT’S everywhere

SUPPER TIME!  I cook supper, eat, and clean it all up.  Me, my man, and lil man head out to check waters in the pastures.  They all looked good, nothing to fix.  We stop back by the barn because my oldest is riding a new horse we just got and I’m sitting there thinking…..DAMN, he looks so grown up out there.  We go back to the house, clean out the truck ’cause we’ll be gone this weekend and check tires.

Since lil man already had a bath, I just clean him up and stick him in pj’s.  It’s family time.  We all visit, play with the youngest and watch a little big brother.  I know, I know….it’s not a family show at all but we are sucked into the reality show.

It’s time to make sure the boys take showers, have their homework done and their room is clean.  9:00…the lil man goes to bed.  I kiss him and tell him I love you.  Everyone goes to bed except me.

From 9:30 to around 1 or 2:00 am, I blog.  I write my posts, research whatever, and finish up stuff.  Then, I go to bed and the start the next day all over again.

It’s exhausting some days but if or when I get tired of it, my family comes first.  I would give up blogging anyday for them no matter how much I made.

Lori, you have quite a schedule there, very organized. I’m with you…family comes first ahead of all the other stuff. I wish I had your energy level. I can’t do all the things I used to do because of fibromyalgia, but I thank the Lord for the things I can still do. I just move at a slower pace now. lol
I’m impressed with your blog. It’s very informative, helpful, and professional.
And this is just a suggestion from a friend, make sure that you get all the sleep you need. After people have been asleep awhile, they go into a period of “deep sleep” where the body refreshes and restores itself. I know from experience how important that is!

Forget title of Problogger you are too good for that title. You are definitely in a class by yourself, I would name you a Super Pro Mom Blogger! I doubt the Probloggers work as hard as you do and they definitely don’t get as much done as you. I am impressed.

      Happy Monday,

Being a parent is truly a hero’s journey. Add to the mix above 15 parakeets who live in my home office (and chirp like jackhammers on steroids whenever I come in at 4am) and you have another facet of what problogging moms can, ahem, enjoy.

      Best wishes,

      Barbara

You are more than a Pro Blogger. People wouldn’t understand what being a mom + a full time blogger is like. Hmmmmmm let’s see - oh okay = exhausting!

However, it is worth it and family does come first. Why do we make less than John Chow again?! Great Post ; )

What a schedule to keep up! You work almost similarly like me. The only difference is I don’t have to wake up anyone.

Yes, you are a problogger. Is there any doubt it?

BTW, your blog’s template is very good. Where did you get it?

      Cheers.

I don’t think I knew the definition of busy until I read this post.

I’m always up and doing something, and my husband is constantly telling me to sit down and relax. He doesn’t realize that I can’t sit down and relax, because if I do, things don’t get done and life turns into chaos.

I suppose to a certain extent I enjoy the schedule, the lists, the constant business, but I need to learn to enjoy other things, as well.
