Cleaning the Clutter
I’m one of those people that would like to think I’m organized, but I’m soooo not! Every since I’ve found Laura’s site, I’ve just wanted to organize my house like a mad woman. Only problem is, I lack the motivation and the “where to start ideas”. To motivate myself, I think about all the people’s houses I’ve gone to and remember how organized things looked there and it makes me want to makes me want to get my house in order.
Where to start??
I try looking at it like this; if I were going to move, where would I begin. This seems to help me figure out what needs to be addressed first. For me, this means the dreaded closets! If you’re not a subscriber of Kate’s newsletter, then you missed out on one heck of a closet makeover, not to mention some other awesome tips!
I begin by immediately chunking the crap!! No maybes about it. Just tossing it. Then I separated the leftovers in 2 different piles, sentimental stuff & useable stuff. I purchased several of those big tub containers and put all the sentimenal stuff into that that I just can’t live without. I went through the useable stuff and asked myself, “Do I really need this?”, “When or Where will I use this?”, and “Do I really, really want it?”. LOL. By asking myself these 3 questions every time, I figured out pretty quick that I didn’t need any of it really, so, it got tossed! What I did keep, either went to a home (drawer, cabinet) or went into the storage container for later use. WOW! I can’t believe how much has already dissappeared simply because it was unneeded crap.
The cabinets are next on the list. Not only do these need organization, they also need cleaning. EWWWWWWWWEEEEE!
So whether your wanting to organize your home, papers, blog, or inbox; you can find motivation just about anywhere even it means comparing your home to others!
Now clean out the clutter and get organized folks!

I love your post on clutter. It’s so true. We have SO much. Do we really need it? As of result of this question, my friends at work and I create a swap among us. We created themes like “craft day, beauty day,” etc. and we all clean out our houses and bring in whatever we don’t want. This way we stay in the spirit of “going green,” we clean out our homes, and we save each other money taking things from friends that we need. Why not give it a try? It’s fun!
Take care.

Awww…it’s such a slow process for me! I’m getting tired of the clutter though and it feels good to NOT have a pile of crap a mile high:)
Great job Lori,
Good luck to you!
I love the Org blog. Her son is a genius organizer too! He motivated me to teach my 2 year old (at the time) to help with chores :)
We just moved less than a year ago and tried to chuck crap, but it just keeps coming back!
