We were driving around checking waters the other day and we came upon this little bat that must have not made back to it’s cave before the sunrise. Awwwww, so sad. I’m not a fan of bats but I hate to see an animal skeered & hurtin’. He was shaking badly and this was the only darkness he could find I guess
We’ve have bats in the barn all the time when it’s the right season but I’ve never seen one like this. I really did feel sorry for it.
I tried to get my husband to capture it something and take it back to some darkness but my request was denied.

Poor lil’ fella

We also have lion & coyote hunters that roam the ranches in the surrounding area trapping. There are snares everywhere marked with little colored markers. I think my husband said there’s a bounty on coyotes and trappers get anywhere from $30 to $50 for them. Anyways, we were still driving around when we came across a hole in the fence that needed some patching. How did the hole get there? I guess there was a snare with a coyote caught it in. He must have fought and fought because the hole was big and his legs were still there

You can see the snare wrapped around his legs. That’s the wire thing you see there.

Every time we see a bat or owl like that out in the day, it means they are sick and about to die. They just don’t have the energy to get back home.

Now I have that song from Ferngully stuck in my head…”My name is Batty the logic is irratic…” Poor guy…

Yuck!
We have wildlife here (surprising considering we are in the city!), but nothing like that. Just raccoons, groundhogs, rabbits…

Bats are like prarie dogs…….the world is better off with each one dead!
I had always heard as a kid that coyotes would chew off a leg to get out of a trap. Until I saw the same sight you did, I didn’t believe it.
*sniff*
Um, I hope I’m not asking too much, but the next time you post something like this, especially with photos, could you maybe consider putting a warning at the top?
I realize that living on a farm/ranch might tend to harden you a little to stuff like this - and I’m not like, a PETA rep or anything, I’m just a girl who has a passion for seeing animals alive and well. I’m a certified animal care tech, and seeing these photos physically hurts me.
I hate to sound like I’m trying to “tell” you what to do, Lori… I’m really not. I’m just asking for a little warning ahead of time, especially since this kind of thing isn’t all that typical on your blog.
Poor little bat…you got to feel sorry for the little guy…although, once you get chased by one that all goes away! As for the coyote very sad too, but I know all too well the reasons behind that.
Have yourself a fabulous weekend, don’t work too hard and I can’t wait to see your banana pudding recipe!!!

Hi Lara….I promise to start giving warning..LOL. Just for the record, bats carry all sorts of diseases and can give it to the horses, cattle, and even us so I don’t feel too sorry for them. The coyotes kill our cats, chickens, and even our dogs so they don’t have my sympathy either but I understand where you’re coming from
Thanks, Lori. Oh, believe me, I know all about the dangers of having those kinds of animals around (especially around your more prized creatures!) but I can’t help shiver when I see stuff like that… As much as I wouldn’t want to get bitten by a snake, seeing one smooshed on the road bothers me just as much. I know, I’m weird.
I totally get where you’re coming from though, and I really appreciate the fact that you get where I’m at too.
