Some of the things I got to check out during my visit to the Sears Home Design Summit, were some cool dorm room makeovers and even learned about a very cool Sears Facebook CampusReady App. Not only can you design your own dorm, you can register gifts for your new dorm and even help them get to know their roommate to make for a more enjoyable living experience!

First of all, I didn’t go to college, didn’t even graduate for that matter, but I know that back in the day, the tools & gadgets are in no comparison to what is offered to today’s young adults. And I’d like to make a note that the app I’ll be talking about can be used to makeover any child-young adult’s room really. It doesn’t have to be a college student but since it is the back to school season, that’s the focus here.

GIFT GETTER

Just like a baby or wedding registry, this is for college students to register items they might need for themselves and their dorm.  Again, I think this could be used for anyone moving to their own place or someone who’s getting a room makeover or heck, even could be used for a Christmas list!!  Love the idea of it and as you can see below, it’s very easy to navigate.  You simply find the items you want, which are all in neat-easy to find categories, and you click “add to list”.  On the next screen, you’re gonna fill out YOUR info, where you want the items sent, and send to the folks you want to have the list…like parents, grandparents, or perhaps a rich uncle?? hehehehe, oh man, I crack myself up!

DORM ROOM DESIGNER

Step 1: Pick the shape of your dorm room because this makeover is in 3D!

Step 2: PIck the size. It gives you 3 very general, common sizes to choose from.

Step 3: Pick your floor and wall colors. FUN!!

Step 4: Pick your door and windows type.

Step 5: Pick your furniture. DOUBLE FUN!!

Now once you get to the main screen, you have the option to add all sorts of 3D items to the room to see how it would look.  I skipped this set because I don’t want to show you everything you know!! I want you to go and play with it yourself!

ROOMMATE MATCHUP

Ever been bunked up with someone that is a total opposite or maybe you don’t even know anything about them??  Well by taking the quiz and inviting your roommate to take the quiz, you can see how well you match up and get to know them before you move in together. It just makes for better preparation to help ease yourself into such a new living situation.

OMG, the quiz is hilarious!!  The questions are interactive and were so much fun to read and THE PERFECT questions to ask and find out about eachother!! LOVED IT and it was actually my favorite part of the app.

FINAL THOUGHTS

My only complaint is the it was a little slow loading for me but I don’t have the fastest Internet.  I loved the entire concept but the interactivity involved is AWESOME.  And not just awesome because they were fun to play with, I honestly believe they will be very useful! I totally recommend CampusReady and desperately wish I had a kiddo going into college just so I could HELP makeover their room with these tools!!
