Texas Pecan Log Bites

As if you prolly didn't already know, pecans are the Texas state nut.  Everywhere you turn, you'll find pecan trees blooming in yards and fields and depending on who you're talking to, you might hear them referred to as 'peee-cans' or 'pa-cons'.  We have our own sort of slang here in Texas after all and that's just a smidge of what makes our great … [Read more...]

Breakin’ Nintendo

One of the questions I get most often is about my oldest son, and that's "How does he break horses?".  Since he recently started a colt, I thought I'd share with you day 1 of breakin' Nintendo, his Dad's horse.  And if you're wondering why his name is Nintendo....this is why. Fire Update: Man, it's been a long 6 days.  I'll try to give you a brief rundown of things.  In 6 days, over 80,000 acres burned, hotspots still flaring up, no power still, and about $1000 worth of our food ruined.  Fun times here on the ranch. Fire on the Ranch!!

At 8 in the evening, we saw smoke. We had heard the fire was South of Blackwell, which would mean it's well over 30 miles from us but around 9, we saw the glow, then at 10, saw the flames. We knew it had to be closer so we headed out to check it out. Here on the ranch, there are a few camps, one of which was just a couple of miles from the fire. … [Read more...]

Rodeo, Cheesecake, and Our Flag

Every year, we are given tickets to attend the San Angelo PRCA Rodeo.  It's always a great rodeo but this year, it was much more for me.  They added a couple of things that gave me goosebumps and a new appreciation of the Flag.  It started with this man here, the rodeo announcer, who is there every year and has a lovely voice to say the … [Read more...]

I recently had the opportunity to visit NYC and meet with a few fine folks behind the making of the new family movie, Secrets of the Mountain.  A good, wholesome, non-cheesy family movie. In fact, me and a few other Walmart Moms got to meet with the producer and watch with him before anyone else.  The movie was great!  It made me giggle, had me on … [Read more...]
