Cupcakes on the Wall

I have a niece that has a lot of stuff…..for real, she’s an only child and she gets just about anything she wants.  While this would make most kids spoiled and bratty like, she is NOT like that at all.  She is sweet and is so excited about the things that she receives.

I was thinking about her this evening…about what I would get her for Christmas (yes I’m already thinking about it) and it’s hard to find things these days that mean anything.  Something that they can learn to appreciate and hopefully expand their horizons.  Anyways, I was browsing the new members at the Mom Bloggers Club (where I’m very active), when I came across this gal that does artwork.  These designs are beautiful and I thought what a neat idea for my niece.  I could get her a piece of artwork Christmas, birthdays, or just because and she could collect them and hopefully find a new appreciation for art.

Here’s a sample of what rkdsign88 has to offer:

So, do you think a child would learn to love and appreciate something besides a toy?  Not that my niece doesn’t….speaking in general about all kids.  I’d like to hear what you think.  Have you ever bought your child something that turned into a hobby?  Maybe artwork like this, or coins, or even hot wheels that stay in the package.  Tell me about it!

  1. I don’t know if this is exactly what you’re talking about, but I took my daughter to paint pottery one day. One of those places that glaze everything for you and it’s all shiny and pretty when you’re done. Since then, whenever she needs to give a gift she wants to go paint something for someone…she gets that “give a piece of yourself” thing even at 7.

  3. I don’t know about things that stay in a package, but I do know that most children who are exposed to arts/crafts usually acquire a love for it. My grandmother used to embroider when I was a child. I don’t embroider, but I do cross-stitch. I love crafts and the arts. My daughter also acquired a love for the arts when I exposed her. I think your niece will thank for this new found love, it will stay with her forever.

  4. As a mom I would love if someone gave something like that to my daughters. I know my 3 year old would love it because she’s girly and loves anything that is girly. As for it becoming a hobby? That I don’t know, my kids are still way young.
