DIY Snowflakes Craft Using Glittered Glue

We’ve only had snow once here in my part of Texas so we have to find creative ways to bring the snow to us since it doesn’t like showing up too often.   This snowflake craft is super duper easy.   Both you and your kiddo will have a blast creating a winter craft in the warmth of your home, all while using your imagination to create a snowflake.   Now most folks will use paper and scissors to make snowflakes but I wanted to try something different that I had seen a long time ago; glittered glue!

Glittered Glue Snowflake Craft

When I first began to prepare for this craft, I initially planned on using Elmer’s glue and whatever glitter I could find.  You can absolutely still do that too.  When I got to the store though, I found glue that was already colored and glittered up called Sparkly Glitter Glue Tube.  I decided to go with that instead.  After trying both, I found that peeling the glittered glue was easier than peeling the Elmer’s glue with glitter sprinkled on…less messy too.

One of the first things I suggest is printing off some snowflake templates if you don’t feel confident in freehanding them.  No snowflake is perfect so I didn’t care if mine were or not. We opted to freehand them.  If you do print out or draw templates, I suggest that you place them under the wax paper and follow the pattern that way.  If you use a sharpie or marker on the wax paper, the ink will come off on the glue and you don’t want that.  Believe I know, I tried it.

  • Wax paper
  • Sparkly Glitter Glue –  (or Elmer’s Glue and some glitter)
  • needle and thread
  • Marker & paper to draw templates (or print them) optional

Decide which method you’ll be using and gather your supplies.

Tear off piece of wax paper. If drawing or using templates, put them under wax paper first. Using the Sparkly Glitter Glue, draw out your snowflake.  Be sure and make it thick enough, otherwise, it will easily tear when time to peel off wax paper.

I wonder if parchment paper would work, instead of wax paper. Hmm, maybe come next Christmas I’ll try this out.
