EDITED TO ADD: Mary Maher was the winner of the Last Cake Standing Challenge and the $50,000. Great cakes, great ladies and a fun challenge to watch!

Last Cake Standing

One Food Network shows I’m looking forward to checking out, is Last Cake Standing.  Have you seen the buzz?  The talent is unbelievable!

LAST CAKE STANDING

Food challenge!  I love to watch challenges and am in awe of the cakes that are created.  They are amazing.  Set your tuner for April 5th, 8pm/7CST. My tivo is ready just in case I can’t be around.

6 pastry chefs will be thrown into a 4-round challenge and eliminated  one by one where the winner will take home $50,000!

The six Challenge all-stars are: Michelle Bommarito (Ferndale, MI), Courtney Clark (Ann Arbor, MI), Mary Maher (Chicago, IL), James Rosselle (Los Angeles, CA), Elisa Strauss (New York, NY), and Bronwen Weber (Dallas, TX).

EPISODES

Episode 1 – Premiering Sunday, April 5th at 8pm ET/PT

In the premiere of Food Network Challenge: Last Cake Standing, six enthusiastic Challenge all-stars receive their first task: illustrate one aspect of their lives through cake! The action-packed competition begins with surprise instructions to move into their kitchens and immediately start creating their signature cakes. At the elimination ceremony, a curveball shocks the competitors when they, instead of the judges, are told to eliminate the first cake artist.

Episode 2 – Premiering Sunday, April 12th at 8pm ET/PT

The five remaining competitors take a field trip to Denver’s City Hall where they embark upon an exciting, but complicated challenge: create a top-notch wedding cake in only eight hours. The competitors serve as wedding ceremony witnesses and consult with the newlyweds before completing impromptu cake sketches. The judges reveal the next elimination and the winning cake is served at the reception that very night.

Episode 3 – Premiering Sunday, April 19th at 8pm ET/PT

The competition heats up when the four remaining competitors design over-the-top cakes based on an original superhero, decked out with extreme elements like moveable parts and fireworks. Hours before the competition, they are divided into teams and required to combine their cake designs. The winning team advances to the finale, and the losing duo faces off in an intense, 30-minute “cake-off” to determine who will move on and who will go up in smoke!

Episode 4 – Premiering Sunday, April 26th at 8pm ET/PT

The final three competitors endure a 24-hour cake-making marathon – the longest competition in Challenge history! The finalists create a unique five-foot birthday cake for a set of sextuplets. Upon completion, they must transport their cakes 20 miles to the birthday party. Strategy, endurance and skills are tested and one talented cake artist is finally crowned the winner!

I saw the first episode and loved it. I really like Mary Maher. She really seems to love what she is doing. I used to really like watching Bronwin Weber (spelling) but she seems a little full of herself. It would be nice for her to be a little more humble. Not sure if that is why she doesn’t always win when she is so sure she has done the best?

I agree with Patty. In fact, I think that Bronwen has been a very poor sport.

I was hoping the taxi driver would get lost on the way back and leave Bronwyn on the side of the road. What a pain she is.

She just always makes a dig on Mary. She is obviously jealous. She needs to grow up. I hope she doesn’t win. Anyone but Bronwyn.

Oh please, brwonwyn IS the best. Mary is the one to me that seems like the poor sport and the diva. She is rude and has an over inflated ego

I actually agree with all of y’all! lol

I think Bronwyn IS good which is why she has the attitude!!! I also see what a snot she can be. I think it’s going to be a toss up between the two girls. Can’t wait until the next one!

Salome are we watching the same show? I do think Bronwyn is talented. I just think her ego takes away from her talent. I do think it will come down to Mary or Bronwyn. Mary has a history of winning so my guess is the judges will give it to Bronwyn.

Mary has new and fresh ideas. She was on another show on WE called Amazing Wedding Cakes, and watching her and her sister work was really, well, amazing.
Bronwen, to me, is just another really good decorator, who does the same things everyone else does. She pipes really well, I guess.

I have been enjoying the shows. It is amazing how many twists they are throwing at the competitors.

The one thing that I am surprized at is that Brownwen has not won any of the competions yet – she is really good.

Don’t count out Courtney Clark… She’s pulled out some pretty impressive wins.

I was surprised & disappointed that team Mary & Courtney won the Superhero Challenge. Even according to Food Networks’ own set of expectations, the pair didn’t meld their ideas into one cohesive theme, they certainly didn’t exhibit more EXTREME-ness than Bronwen & James — part of their design didn’t even come to fruition (the Firefly wing flaps didn’t happen). How did they win? No clue.

Mary’s cakes are just plain better. Her style is better. Her cakes are more professional. Bronwyn uses the same colors and they are not good. On the wedding cake challenge her cake was not high class, even if it had the elements the couple asked for – the cake looked amateurish.

As for the extreme cakes, working together also mean taking care of your responsibilities without needing help. Mary’s team did that – Also the challenge was to blend the two ideas, they did that too. They were smarter – their work was cleaner – and they won. Go Mary!

Bronwyn team cake had a spinning dude and fireworks! Well, anyone can add fireworks. Just put on fireworks and light them. Aside for a terrible looking superhero they had nothing.

Mary’s team fused their boards and make changes to the overall composition. The wings did not flap, but the superhero was spinning. So, extreme for extreme they both had spinning – one looked like something you would want – the other did not.

Did anyone notice that the firefly was flying backwards? If it was to throw the fireball it would have gone the other way and not at the “enemy”. It was only because Browyn did not finish her cake that she lost. So sad.

MY VOTE SO FAR IS COURTNEY… I USED TO BE FOR BRONWEN, BUT SHE’S GOT AN ATTITUDE NOW LIKE SHE’S GOOD AND SHE KNOWS IT… DON’T KNOW IF ANYONE WATCHED “THE VIEW” LAST WEEK OR NOT… IT WAS SHERRY’S BIRTHDAY, AND ALL THREE MADE HER A CAKE AND SHERRY GOT TO PICK THE WINNER, AND COURTNEY WON… YEAH COURTNEY… I LIKE HER STYLE… THEY ARE ALL GOOD, BUT MY PICK IS FOR COURTNEY… GOOD LUCK !!! CAN’T WAIT TILL IT COMES ON TONIGHT….

I think this show would be so much better if they would take out the drama and concentrate on the “best cake standing.” I was disappointed that this was another “reality show” and not a typical food network show on cake decorating and baking. Take out the drama of them voting each other out and make it a true competition with judges of their peers based on taste, difficulty and imagination.

MARY WAS THE WINNER… COURTNEY CAME IN 2ND, AND BRONWEN CAME IN 3RD.

MJ just helped eliminate the suspense of it all. However, I am glad that Mary won. I was hoping for Courtney, but all three deserve to be in the top three spots.

I REALLY WAS HOPING COURTNEY WOULD WIN… I LOVED HER CAKE MORE THAN MARY’S… I THINK EVERYBODY WOULD HAVE DONE MUCH BETTER IF THEY WASN’T SO TIRED… THEY WAS JUST TO TIRED TO TAKE ON YET ANOTHER CHALLENGE… THEY WAS ALL EXHAUSTED, I FELT FOR THEM ALL… J T HAD A COMMENT ABOUT BRONWEN NOT WINNING ANY OF THE COMPETIONS… I THINK SHE DOES HER BEST WHEN SHE KNOWS WHAT THE CHALLENGE IS… SHE IS MORE PREPARED… I THINK SHE THOUGHT SHE NAILED IT… I JUST DIDN’T LIKE HER ATTITUDE IN THE WHOLE THING… ONE OF HER COMMENTS ON ONE OF THE SHOWS WAS… “IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, IT’S THE TITLE”… I THOUGHT WASN’T GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP….

I honestly feel FOOD network picked the winner before the challenge started. The only thing that came through to me was that they picked the decorator with the worst attitude and was the most emotionally unstable. She had one good cake (The “who I am” cake with the French/Mexican theme). The firefly was ridiculous and ended up with no plasma ball. The last cake looked stupid– the proportions were totally wrong and it was MESSY.

If we’re judging by the final competition, Courtney should have walked away with it. But Bronwyn was the only one who seem to genuinely LIKE what she was doing and take pride in her work. *shrugs* I probably wouldn’t watch a challenge like this again because the whole thing felt very…staged.

It did feel a little too staged, didn’t it? Now that you mention it, that’s kinda the feeling i got, too. With the exception of Bronwen, they all had their stability issues, but that’s got to be a sign of the artistic nature of the craft. I’m glad Mary won. I think she produced the most consistently good cakes throughout the competition. The televised program itself relied too much on gimmicks and contrived plot twists for it to be genuine. I’ve always like the cake challenges, but this one was a little over the top with some of the challenge elements. (Having to vote a competitor off I thought was an awful plot device, the 30-minute cake bake-off was just silly.)

It doesn’t seem to matter what Mary does, Bronwen has a snide remark to make about it. Then she can’t seem to figure out why she didn’t win. Maybe if Bronwen would quit using white and pink on all her cakes and take a few more chances, she may have a chance – not. Good luck to Mary and Courtney, you ladies rock. I would love to see more Challenges but without all the drama from the show.
