When I had children I decided I could not and would not take the chance at having him lie and hurt them like he did me. It's unfortunate that you had such rotten experiences growing up, but I think it's a testiment to your strong spirit that you made those different choices and you ought to be proud of yourself and your family. The more you're able to do this, the more it will help when the time comes and he passes away (which may be many years from now, only God knows) Once a parent is gone, that's it. There's no more hugs, no more talking, no chance to ask questions or hear favorite stories from the past. I think that's great your dad told stories and made y'all laugh. I've lost both of my parents and I miss hearing them talk and tell stories from the past soooo much! It's such a shame that drugs harm so many people. We know someone that has had many ups and downs in his life, and it's always drugs that pull him down.
