Operation Fatty: Pledge, Wii, Update, You

Well it’s not wonder I got mistaken as pregnant all those times.  I mean, good gawd, I never realized just how fat I was until last night. I was browsing earlier videos I had done when I came across one of me on the treadmill.  Wow.  I was shocked just to see how big I was around.  I knew I was fat but I guess I didn’t realize how it was all right there  in the mid section, making me look pregnant.  I’ve been too embarrassed to write this post because I have gained weight but you guys are the ones that motivate & support me so I feel like I can share.

Okay, letting that last bit of negativity out is done and over.

Right here and now, I pledge to NOT talk down to myself anymore. Not make fun of my own weight anymore but instead, to see the positives and focus on making myself healthy in body and soul.

You all know how I talk about the Nintendo Wii right? How bad I want one and how I truly feel it will help me?  I actually love workouts but easily get bored with the same one over and over again. This is where the Wii comes in. You’ve seen the Wii Fit, now the Wii Fit Plus and how they offer variety, something I need to stay motivated every day.  And I’ve always heard it’s good to not have repetition so that your body doesn’t expect the same thing.  Is that accurate or am I just making stuff up??  Maybe one of you will know.

I’ve heard some amazing stories from women using the Wii to help them on their road to a healthier lifestyle.  It’s inspirational.  Did you know that 11 million females in the U.S.—one out of every four system owners—is  considered the “primary player” on those home systems?  And a full 80 percent of those female primary players own the Wii console. WOW! I had no idea so I was surprised when I found that. I knew it had to be a big number because it seems like everyone I know has one and is using it for weight loss and casual gaming.

MY UPDATE

operationfattycomparisonI’ve gained weight even since that fatter picture of me. Over 10lbs to be exact.  I’m now at 198. Wow..I’m so ashamed to say that, especially since I know friends and family read my blog.  I’ve asked a few people to hold me accountable. To call me and make sure I’ve exercised. To support me.  I’ve asked you before and you probably think I’m a total loser by now but hopefully you’ll keep on supporting me.  Maybe I could use a prayer too….is it wrong to ask for prayers to help me lose weight? Something so selfish like that?

    It’s sad how quickly weight can creep up on you and then one day you notice it…and it’s so hard to take it off! I’m in a wheelchair, and I’ve let myself really go in the last few years due to health problems. Now that those are a bit better, I’m stuck with all this extra weight and I’m not sure what I can do about it. You’re very lucky that you can use the Wii Fit to get healthy and help you with your weight. I’ve never walked so I will never know what I’m missing, thank God, but some days I wish I could walk (or RUN) for about a year just to work some of this weight off. Not having a lot of mobility, plus being a major chocaholic, don’t bode well for weight loss, my friend. Good luck with your endeavor. You look great just like you are. Only change for yourself.

      I definitely know what you are talking about because I have a BIL who has been in a wheelchair for the last 15+yrs. (paralyzed waist down) He does exercises all the time to help him because he was getting a little chubby too. He used to swim, play basketball and more…..I’ll have to ask him what he’s been doing lately! He’ll be down for Thanksgiving;)

    I just had a doctor appointment and they weighed me. I was shocked at the number. It really does creep up on you. I have made the decision to start working out again now that I’m seeing a chiropractor for my neck and back. Between those treatments and losing weight, I’m hoping to be relatively pain free when it’s all said and done.

    I just want to say that once you get in a routine, it gets so much easier. I used to work out. And then stopped after the dr told me to (I was pregnant, complications, etc). And then I never really started up again the same…. I would stop easily, choosing tv or working out. Then I saw a Bodybuilding Contest (my DH was in) and I got super motivated to look like some of the feminine women. I got home, DH made me a workout schedule (at the gym 4 -5 days a week) a healthy diet (hello protein) and I started taking almost weekly photos. Seeing the progress with pictures and just having a routine that “this is what I do at 9pm” really works for me. Good luck! Go grab a magazine, I say, and find your goal. Work at it slowly! You can do it!

      As much as I hate photos, I like the idea of taking weekly photos. I can always see the weight loss in my face first……

    As a teenager I was one of those lucky people who could eat anything. It’s been hard now that I have hit my forties and my metabolism has slowed down and my lifestyle is more sedentary to remind myself I can no longer do this. I love food. Unfortunately, I can no longer engage in a day long snack fest. I do try to at least walk 3-4 times a week for the sake of my health.

    I have been running 4 days a week and doing a workout video 2 days a week (on day’s that I do not run) I have lost 10 lbs in a month. Start slow, have people to check up on you and motivate you to go run when you don’t want to. I also take a picture every other week in a bathing suit (EEK) but I don’t share these with anyone but me. It helps to see the changes. I asked for a wii fit for christmas, and I have been researching games for it. The My personal trainer and the Jillian Michaels 2010 (not 2009) ones seem to have the best reviews. I do the Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred 2 times a week and it kicks my butt!!! I also started blogging my running to fitness journey. I don’t share it with a lot of people, but if you want to read it and see how I have been doing shot me an email. I would love to share it with you and help you set up a walk/run workout if you want. Don’t give up! You can do this – and on the days that the workouts suck and are hard- just know that is when your body is changing the most! YOU ROCK! GO GIRL GO!

    One of the jokes among my friends is that I rarely allow any pictures of me. The reason? because I still am carrying around an extra 20-25 lbs (I know that doesn’t sound like much, but I am only 5’2″, so it looks like more). Making it even worse is that all the women in my family have a “natural double chin” (even my size 4 cousin). the camera is not my friend!

    One problem is that I absolutely despise exercise. I asked for and received a Wii Fit last Christmas…I’ve used it twice.

    I went back on Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago and am down 4 pounds, but it is a constant struggle!

    10 years ago, the weight would come off much easier through simple dieting than it does now. Now that I am 40, I swear that my body is determined to hold on to every single last pound.

    The worst part? My husband keeps saying that he loves me no matter what and that I should’t worry about the extra pounds. I could have killed him for saying that ;-)

    I have always been fat. I did go to Weight Watchers a long time ago and lost almost 90 pounds. But then people starting saying how good I looked and well I managed to gain all 90 pounds back plus several more. This last year my knee started hurting. In March although I really didn’t do anything intentionally I started losing weight. I just stopped drinking so many sodas and eating everything that didn’t get away. So far I have lost 40 pounds. I am going to start some kind of exercise program soon. The best part is that I am now wearing jeans that are 2 sizes smaller that I was wearing in March.

    Oh, I have so many tales of falling off the wagon, which for some reason I chronicle for the world to see!

    BUT, in the year since we have started Shrinking Jeans, I have lost 15 lbs, which is awesome!!

    I’m there myselft. I’m 5’5″ weighing in around 175. This is the heaviest I’ve ever been and at 32 it’s hard to get rid of. I was another one of those kids who could eat anything all the time and remain skinny as a rail. After I had my first child, all that changed. I didn’t gain so much after the first but after two more kids and twelve years, you can see where the pounds creep up on you. It helped that I worked outside the home until baby #3. I noticed a big jump in my weight after I became a SAHM. I tried pilates, which works okay if I’m home by myself and in control of my day and the TV/DVD player. Since hubster was hurst last year, he’s been home unable to work so I’m battling for any ‘ME’ time so forget working in an exercise routine. The finances don’t allow for a gym membership and I don’t think I could keep the weight off once I quit a program like Weight Watchers (think Kirsty Ally). I’d like to get a Wii for us too. I think it would help me become more active, even if it’s just playing the games. We’ve already got an Xbox so I really wished they’d just come out with something like Wii Fit for their system too but I guess that’s not likely! Hopefully Santa will be kind to me this year and I’ll find a Wii under the tree!!!

    One last thought, it’s really easy as a mother to focus on everyone elses needs first thinking you’ll take care of your needs ‘later’ when you have time. Oddly enough, later never gets here. Kudos to you for MAKING the time to meet your needs.

    Good for you wanting to get started on a healthier lifestyle..I have every good intention as well, but you know what’s paved with those . I have the Wii, wii fit, jillian’s thing for the wii (didn’t really like that one). The wii fit is actually fun, but I don’t do it enough..should, don’t. Now that we are going to set up the basement with the Wii, I might use it more.

    You are an incredible woman, mother, and wife and I know when you set your mind to it, you’ll accomplish whatever it is you set out to do. We will be supporting you every step of the way and when you falter, we’ll all be your sisters lending you a hand to get you up and going again.

    I’m in the same boat! I’ve wanted the Wii for the same reasons, but wonder if I would actually use it regularly also. We have a Bowflex but it never gets used. It’s more fun if you do it with someone else. I was exercising with a friend one time and we got too close and one of us ended up kicking the other. Even that was funny because we were doing it together.

    We are all on a journey to health and we all need help on that journey. Each journey is different. We have been given a life for a purpose and are to accomplish that purpose whatever it is….so it is absolutely not selfish to ask for prayers. I could ramble on and on, I guess that mugshots.com-thingy-thing(do you know what I am talking about) are not the dumbest idea ever. Maybe we should take weekly shots.

    I also want to remind you that- I way 135 and I am in the worst shape of my life. It isnt always about numbers.

    I’m so with you on this. After baby #2, I worked hard at eating healthy and I was at my thinnest weight in years. Then I went back to my desk job, got preggo with number 3, started my business and the pounds starting piling on. Now I’m about 165 and only 5’2”. I’m tired of my double chin, and tired of being tired. I know a healthier eating routine will fix a lot, and some exercise will not hurt. Just need to get on track!

    I have totally fallen off the wagon. When I was younger I was depressed about being too thin. I could eat anything and not gain an ounce. Now I breathe and I gain weight. My stomach is so big, I have to wear spanx so I can see my feet. I feel like I’m pregnant. And the triple chin I have is so awful :( It’s like I’m carrying around a different person. My problem is not being able to really exercise and eating junk food and eating all of the time. Used to be that I couldn’t eat when I was upset now I stuff my face. Ugh!

    Well, Lori…I am right there with ya! You’ve seen me and can totally tell I’ve gained weight (arrgghhh). 15 lbs to be exact…ahhh!! But, I’m back in the saddle again (ya like the saddle analogy ;) – 2 weeks in to be exact and I can already tell I just feel better even though I haven’t lost a darn pound!

    I will hold you accountable girl, I just need to know if you want a phone call, text, skype or tweet…cause I will be one you like chub on the rub…that will be gone oh so soon!!

    I’m so proud of you for never giving up…here you are, still trying. I think the main thing I do is think that things are too hard or take too much time. When if I’d just go do it, it wouldn’t be hard at all!

    I love the wii for weight loss, it (combined with counting points with WW) has been the first time I have lost weight in 10+yrs.

    Btw, God seeks prayer from us in all forms, and tells us to ask for the desires of our heart. It’s a great idea to ask for the strength and discipline it takes for long term weight loss!

    I think we should be better friends! haha! I weighed as much as you just a week ago. THEN – I got sick and lost 8lbs. Still in the 190’s tho. It makes me mad to think that I’ve gotten this way.     I did the potato video of me last night and when I watched it… I wanted to cry. How did I get that fat?
    I won’t even weigh myself for fear.

    We have the wii fit and I’m upgrading us to the Plus for Christmas. I’m going to start walking again in the mornings and using the Fit to hopefully lose the weight.
    I made a vow a while ago to never talk about my body, weight or how I see myself around my children. I do NOT want them to see how I think or to think that how I look has any bearing on how others see me or my self esteem (did that ramble make ANY sense?)

    I’m going to try to cook less chicken fried steaks, less pastas and be healthier…

    here’s to hoping.

      Oh please Rachel, I watched your potato video (and voted) and you did not look fat at all! I know what you mean. Toby has a bit of a complex about himself. He’s 13, 190, size 10 shoe….he’s not FAT but he’s a big stout boy that slightly chubbier than his classmates. It bothers him but I just tell him that he’s gonna be able to take down Tyler so easy this Summer. LOL

      Cooking less chicken fry? oy…good luck with that. Taters, steak, chicken fry oh my! I can maybe avoid eating it but not cooking it? My guys would kill me;)

    Recently, a sister of mine tried Sensa and she has lost over 20 lbs. within a few months.

    I’m right there with you! I have always struggled with my weight but have finally made it clear to myself that this isn’t acceptable. I weigh more then you, have a total of 100 pounds to lose, and medical issues to boot. Weight Watchers has always been good for me, I’m on it right now and have lost 15 pounds in the past month.
    Since you mentioned Wii Fit, I also want to suggest the Wii game EA Active and EA Active More Workouts. Those are fantastic games for exercising. The Wii Fit games are great (Wii Fit Plus is MUCH better then the original version) but the EA Active has a challenge (30 days for the first version, 6 weeks for the newer version) and gives you a set schedule. You exercise two days, take one day off. The only negative is that the EA Active game doesn’t weigh you. We have all four of the games at our house (we’re a little obsessive.)
    Good luck on your journey, you can do it! You just have to remember why you are doing it and why you can’t afford to stop. Every time I have a weak moment, I think of my children and how I want to be more active for them, have energy to play with them, and be healthy for them.

    It is way too easy to get off track especially when you have a lot of distractions. I told myself that I was going to focus more on health and fitness this year. I decided to write everything down this time. It helps to keep you motivated and you know what you have to do. Just keep going…
