Our Living Room

People are curious about my decor.  Of course, it’s westernfied so no surprises in that department but I had several people asking about my rug and cowboy hats so I decided to post a picture.

I have cowboy hats hanging everywhere–on the corner of the window curtains, on the entertainment stand, the floor, walls, etc.  My sofa & recliner were pretty at one time.  Unfortunately, sweaty boys and cowboys with cowpie covered pants have taken it’s toll on my microfiber furniture.  Oh well, what can you do.  There are more important things to worry about in life than furniture.  My rug came from Blair.  Yep, you heard me right…BLAIR. It’s quite expensive but I didn’t pay near what the full price was.  I waited for it to go on sale, then I scoured the web for a coupon code and found one for 30% off!!  I love coupons:)  Anyways, the rug has had it’s share of traffic but is holding up very nice.  It could use a good cleaning but who’s got time to clean it when there’s blogging to be done?  I love my entertainment center, which is really a wardrobe dillywhopper.  I love it nevertheless.  We bought that at Gallery Furniture in Abilene, TX and paid less than $300 for it.  Not too bad really.  Beside it sits an old gas can.  There’s a bedroll in the corner and who knows what’s under the sofa.  We usually hang pictures, bridles, leggings, and spurs on the walls.  I told you it was westernfied!  BTW, that piece of wood on the wall in the corner has Tommy Lee Jones’s old ranch brand on it.  He had these posted on gates and stuff.  When the new owner took over he wanted them gone so I took one.

OH, I LOVE wagons.  Do you see the big on top of my entertainment stand?  That’s my favorite one.  I love old stagecoach wagons and buggys.

yep, I would feel right at home! Looks very comfy and inviting. I’m not sharing ours yet since we’re just starting some home improvements. Lately I’ve been scraping the popcorn ceilings ~ fun! NOT!

Did your living room have paneling? That’s what I’m trying to cover up in this house. I’ve been putting it off because I don’t want to have to sand it, but everything I’ve read says that’s the right way to prepare it before slapping on the Kilz.

Hey Karin! Yes, it’s paneling :shake:
Since it’s a ranch house, we can’t do much. They don’t want to spend any money on it and I sure ain’t gonna.

Good luck with your projects. I would love to see it;)

My husband who is in and out of the cowboy lifestyle, so wants western decor in our house. He’d be so envious of yours. :)

I love it….esp. the rug. I have been dreaming of one for years too. I decorate like you, steal stuff from the barn.

I noticed your covered wagon right away. I have a set in our storage unit that are lamps. Hubby and I had the task a few years ago of cleaning out my mother-in-law’s attic. They were the oddest item we found. They grew on me so much I had to keep ‘em

Feels really homey, I like it! You didn’t go overboard, which is good, yet it’s personal and well… suits your family!

I should have a “snow” theme for the living room! :D

Thank you so much for the nomination! I’m gonna look into that more closely (well, yeah, that’s my first nomination for anything EVER!), and I’m still finalizing my theme.

Is that a cowboy hat hanging on the wall? Also on the side of the curtain rods? If so, what a great idea! We’re not country/western but I’m always looking for something original and different for my walls.

What a neat living room!! I had panneling and let me tell you how I painted it and it looked fabulous afterwards!! So Karin, I would let you know but you will just have to read it here, which you probably wont’ so Lori, here goes. It’s inexspensive too.

My husband puddied the cracks with wood puddy, then we just kiltzed it, and then took a textured paint and slapped it on the wall. It gave it a Tuscan old look. Then we painted it. We go all the suppies at Home Depot and it was easy. The longest thing was wood puddy the cracks. But when it was all finished it looked aweseom!!!

Hey Andrea, I don’t mess with the walls and stuff because it’s a ranch home and not my own but it’s good info! I alerted Karin and told her to come read it:D
