Questions Answered

I get a lot of questions about various things, so today, I thought I’d answer a few that have been asked. First up are Ree questions. I get a lot of these so I guess I’ll just answer them and move on.

1. Why don’t you link to “The Pioneer Woman”?
This is really for personal reasons. First, she has a wonderful site and I visit it mainly for the photography. I do enjoy the cooking section as well but I do enough cooking on my own so it’s not as high up on the list as the photography. Now, with that said, I know several families that have worked for the Drummond’s and have had less that nice things to say about them. Yes, I know I shouldn’t judge but after hearing what they’ve said and reading about some of what the town folk say, it’s hard to ignore. What am I talking about? You’ll have to research for yourself because I don’t gossip. Nuff said.

2. Do you compare your blog to Ree’s blog?
No, I don’t. Do I think others compare us? Yes I do. No matter though. My blog is my own and I’m not trying to be like anyone else. I could never compare to someone who is filthy rich and can giveaway hundred dollar gift cards all the time anyways.

3. You always say that you’re not nice, why?
LOL…Because I’m not, most of the time. I don’t try to be mean or anything, it’s just, I’m very blunt and aside from words, my facial expression usually says it all. I don’t put up with anyone’s bull and could care less about what most folks think about me or my actions. While I consider myself to do a good job as a mother, I’m not a softie by any means. There are a lot of things that contribute to my meanness but as I’ve said before, I’ll do anything for anyone in need so I’m not that mean.

4. Do you ride horses?
Nope! I don’t ride because I would hate to see a horse have to carry a 50lb saddle and another 190something lbs to boot on his back. It just makes me feel bad for the horse. I have ridden in the past and I enjoyed a great deal. Perhaps if I lose weight, I’ll do it again but until then..I’ll just drive the 4-wheeler.

5. You’ve mentioned drugs in your family, care to elaborate?
Not especially but I will anyhow. My biological dad had done heroin since his youth. He has spent most of his life in prison, which is home to him. It’s sad really because he could be a great guy and has an awesome drawing/painting talent. I lived with him once during my rebellious teenage years. I remember him and my step mom running around like crazy people trying to find a needle. My dad was sweating and just mumbling over and over. They found one finally and sat in a corner in the room. I saw him tie a sock around his arm and shoot the heroin. She did the same and then both just laid there in a whole other world staring into space. I’ve always known I wouldn’t do drugs, but it was right then and there when I really knew I wouldn’t do drugs.

Erm….with that, I think I’ll call it an end to this round of questions. Hopefully I’ve eased the curiousity of some. If you have any questions, just ask. I may make this a normal thing, who knows.

  1. That is strange. I have never compared you to that other blog. Yours is a totally different life and experience. Do people think there should only be one authority on ranches. I check out about 7 blogs who have ranches, all different. Then there are the farm blogs. The cotton wife blog is very different than mine. I don’t find the need to compare. Maybe in town folk minds we are all the same, is all I can figure.

  2. I never thought you to be like PW’s blog. I just like to read other people’s blogs that have the same interst as me. I love ranch life and whished I lived on one. I live on a small horse farm and wish I had a lot of land to ride on!! *sigh* I think your blog is just fine and I like it the way it is.

    Andrea’s last blog post..Good Boy

  3. @Farmwife…I think you hit the nail on the head! Town folk must think we’re all alike;)

@Andrea…I’m glad that you like me for me. I definitely don’t try to be like anyone else.

  4. Your blog is definitely not like anyone else’s. Completely unique and I love it!!

I’ve read some of the stuff about Ree and her family on the web. It doesn’t paint a pretty picture.

Plus, I can’t stand when she posts picture with animal cruelty of catching those cows on a rope then binding their feet. I don’t know if that’s what ranch life is all about but it sure as hell is animal cruelty in my mind. What happens to the cattle afterwards? … we never know.

  5. Wowsers, Batman…don’t know anything about it. You just crack me up…so I come back.

That’ my story and I’ll stick to it.

Just a thought…why should you be compared to another “ranching” blog (?) when all these mommy blogs aren’t compared to each other? idk…

    Jenny867-5309’s last blog post..Yep, that’s me!

  6. Great post Lori! I don’t have a lot of readers, but I’ve been asked the same PW questions and like you, I go there for the photography although I have tried a recipe. I’ve tried to contact her with photography questions when I first stumbled upon her, but she never replied.

Even though we ranch and homeschool, our lives couldn’t be more different.

I don’t like being compared to anyone. I’m an original and I like marching to the beat of my own drummer! Grin!

Kudos to you for doing the same!

  7. Hey Tina! Yes, if you do some research, people will understand some of the reason I’m not a personal fan.

Howdy Karin! I wasn’t gonna say it but yes, I have emailed her numerous times with no response at all. Even Darren (problogger.net & John Chow (johnchow.com) make time to respond to comments and emails. To be honest, I find her a bit selfish but I won’t go there;)

Kudos to you as well for being you ’cause I’m a big fan of yours!!

  8. Lori,

First off, it’s nice of you to even answer all of these questions. Second, I’ve checked out her site and I like it but I come back to yours and comment and participate on your blog. I think it’s because your blog feels “real”. I don’t compare you though. And for the drugs…we all have screwed up families.

P.S. making the wordpress change and oh, my goodness! Eyes crossed!

Sommer’s last blog post..Asthma and earth friendly products…a reason to spread the message!

  9. never heard of her. you win. :-)
