Setting Up Shop

We’ve lived here at this house for almost a year and have never moved my cowboy’s shop over. He would simply drive back and forth. We finally started moving his stuff over and with a little muscle, was able to get it all set up today. The spur maker is probably taking orders. I mean, I haven’t asked him but surely he is right?

We don’t have the fanciest setup but it works and that’s all that matters. The room he had before was so small that only two people could fit in there with all that machinery. Now it’s a huge space decked out with a small card table and chairs just in case I want to sit and watch him make something. Or maybe it’s really for any fellas that stop and want to have a beer in the evenings……either way, it’s there with a set of dominoes to complete it.

Just some of the tools of the trade. Taken during the setup process…..

Tool of the trade?  Well of course he is….he’s such a big helper and all, at least at moving things around and hauling in dirt food.

My dad’s a spurmaker, too…and having moved so many times from ranch to ranch and camp to camp, he finally bought an old semi-truck trailer and some old oilfield steps, bolted the workbenches and all the machinery to the floor, and voila…Stan’s Spur Shop on wheels. So now every time the parents move (hopefully they are done!) Dad calls up his cousin the trucker, who shows up with his trusty Peterbilt and rolls him to the next location.

Your post brings back lots of good memories…I was the queen of ‘welding chalk artwork’ on the walls and the table, and when I got a little older I started playing with the engraving tools on the scrap silver. When I was in high school I designed some of his silver work and started actually doing some real engraving…he also put me to work cutting out a lot of the silver since I was gentler and broke fewer hacksaw blades.

I miss those days in the shop with Dad!
