Because I’m trying to lose weight, I’m really watching what I eat. Every morning I wake up and decide what to eat. I usually go for oatmeal, a healthy cereal or have a smoothie. Today is smoothie day! My two favorite fruits, strawberries & bananas, in a drink! And to make sure I’m getting a good dose of calcium, I use whole milk. You can substitute 2% or fat free if you want it non-fat but I think it’s healthy to have a good glass of milk throughout the day.
I have a blender that I just LOVE. The Chris Freytag Personal Fitness Blender is my absolute favorite and it’s cheaper at QVC than at Amazon. If you’re not a member of QVC, it’s a 30 sec sign up folks.
The blender is basically a mug that you can use to drink your shake or smoothie and comes with a to-go lid. You put your ingredients in it, screw the top on (with the blender blades) and flip over onto unit. When done, you flip back over and swap out lids with the to-go one. I LOVE IT! And you can also get extra mugs if you want more for other family members.
INGREDIENTS
- * 1 cup frozen strawberry
- * 1 cup milk
- * 2 packets of Truvia (or your favorite sweetener or 1/4 cup sugar)
- * 1 banana
- * 8-10 ice cubes
DIRECTIONS
Put all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth. VIOLA! Super easy and VERY good!
What is your favorite kind of smoothie?

Our favorite smoothie is very similar except we use yogurt instead of milk and sugar. Everyone in our family LOVES these. It can be turned into a very yummy daiquiri for the adults if you pour a little rum into the mix.

Just an FYI — there’s more usable calcium in skim or non-fat milk than there is in whole milk.

I saw this in your flickr account and had to come see what you put in it! It looks yummy! I might have one after my workout tonight! Is the banana frozen too, or just the strawberries?

Looks good.
Now that I’m post surgery I have to mix a lot of liquids, this would be great.
I tried signing up for the QVC but it says the offer is dead.

If you want to make it thick shake-style, try freezing your own bananas, then use both frozen bananas and strawberries, add the milk, and instead of a sweetener, throw in a yogurt for some sweetener. SO good. Nix the ice. It satisfies my pregnancy craving for sweetness while being healthy at the same time. I really think it’s better than ice cream!

I make smoothies similar to this for my daughter! She LOVES them! We use frozen blueberries, a banana, whole milk, plain yogurt and wheat germ… they’re really tasty!

I have gestational diabetes this time around, so this would be perfect for me! Thanks for sharing!

Any suggestions for how to achieve the same results if you can’t tolerate bananas? So many smoothies call for bananas and I just can’t do it. I’d love some alternatives.

This smoothie is sooo good! I freeze the strawberries and the banana both and it gives a much thicker consistency.
To Cathy Long:
I can’t stand bananas either, so I cut them up and freeze them. The slices are between .5 and 1 cm thick and I use about 5 slices of banana. Its more for the overall taste and the strawberries and sugar cover it up nicely. Hope you get to read this!

I am diabetic and could not find for the life of me a strawberry-banana smoothie without yogurt (6 grams of sugar for non-fat) until… VOILA! I found the recipe by surfing google. Thank you A Cowboy’s Wife, I love it!
