I’m on flight 2477 headed straight for Nashville right now and for the first time, I am NOT nervous. I feel confident in where I’m going, what I’m doing, and even speaking on the panel. It’s funny because I’ve always wondered how people do it, how they get in front of all these people and talk without having a nervous breakdown. Now I know….it’s confidence is what you are talking about.

Since my first goals when I started blogging were making money online, I now know a lot about the subject, which makes me feel confident in relaying that information to others. Would I consider myself an expert? Absolutely not but I can at least give others some examples of what and what not to do in affiliate marketing in hopes of helping them succeed and potentially earn some nice spending cash.

This also makes me wonder (as I sit here watching the guy 3 seats over sleep with his mouth wide open), why do I get so nervous before my radio show? I think I might know why. I’m not educated enough in the “food” niche. Seriously, I know y’all think I am but I truly am not. I do regular ol’ everyday cooking, not always made from scratch, which happens to be a big part of why I’m sorta snubbed from other foodies. You would think with a successful blog like My Wooden Spoon, I would be good friends with all the other successful foodies….but *sigh*….I am not. When I hear my mom talk about food, it’s SO clear that I know nothing. THIS, has me thinking that I shouldn’t do a show just about food. What if I made the show about everything?..from food to parenting, to affiliate marketing, shopping, or just everyday blogging tips?

Wow, this ramblin’ has shortened my trip. We are already close to Nashville! So I leave you with this question…..

Do you think my radio show should stay within the food niche, or do you think I should expand it into other subjects as well? OR, what if the show consisted of me and one or two other ladies?? Lemme know folks cause I really wanna know your thoughts on it.

  1. Well awe!! Big cyber hugs for you! It takes a lot to recognize things about yourself. I personally have not heard your show yet (since I just only knew it existed when you contacted me) I hope that you figure it out and know that we all love you regardless :) I know how you feel about the “thinking you would be part of certain groups” thing. Hang tough and I hope you figure it all out!

  2. Go with your heart. They say it’s God speaking to you.

  3. I hope I don’t get kicked off your blog for saying this, but I didn’t know you had a radio foodie show. I’ll be sure to check it out. But I wanted to tell you that I spent over a year trying to hack it in the foodie blogosphere. It IS brutal!!! I finally decided to get back to my roots, so to speak, and blog about everything. I feel like I’m being much more authentic, and I’m having more fun!!! So do what you feel you need to, to stay true to YOU. Your readers/listeners will love ya no matter what!!

  4. Put a stone in your shoe when you have to do public talking.. Then you have something to distract you…
    You will be great..

  7. Lori, I think you should expand your radio show into other subjects as well. You have so much valuable information to share. I wish I could hear you speak in Nashville. Money is tight and so I’m expanding and have 3 blogs now, have added Adsense, and want to add affiliate marketing. So what you’re talking about is exactly what I need to hear. I wish you could speak in the DFW Metroplex area sometime!!! :)

  8. I liked the shows I’ve listened to very much, so I hope it stays “as is”. If it weren’t about food, I might not be listening. There are so many “mom” blogs and shows that it’s nice to find one that’s mainly about a subject we can all relate to. Just MHO and your decision, of course.

  9. I live about 45 minutes from Nashville.I wish I could hear you speak.

  10. Listen to your instincts-they’ve gotten you this far! If you want to try expanding the show’s format-then go for it! There’s pro’s and con’s to everything but I’ve learned to go with my gut instincts-they’re generally right!
