What I’ve Learned Over the Past Few Days

I haven’t been blogging much these last few days on any of my blogs.  What did I learn?  I learned that nobody really cares.  No I’m not trying to be have your pity bestowed on me.  I just mean that my constant daily effort to provide some sort of content for you is basically meaningless for the most part.  It means, I don’t have to feel obligated to post every single day because I realize that you’re not gonna die without a post from me.  It means less work for me equalling more fun for me.

I’ve been overwhelmed with things lately and have a little more stressed than usual.  The products for reviews are pouring in and I love it but there’s A LOT.  My food blog is syndicated which is adding a bit more stress because I’m trying to write posts and incorporate food photos that are of higher standards than how I used to post.  I’m still completely up in the air on my bloggingcents.com blog.  To be honest, I would rather just import it here like I had when I did my makeover that way I don’t feel obligated to try and update throughout the week.  Or, I could sell it which has been on my mind more and more these days.

Also, writing for several websites is really getting to me.  I am happy to be a part of these places but I don’t see any traffic from these places because frankly, they don’t even stay on the front page long enough to do anything.  AND, I can barely keep up with my own blogs anyhow.

I’m also having a hard time in the social world.  With Twitter, Mom Bloggers Club, Twitter Moms, Savvy Auntie, and more…it’s very hard to find time to find time for all these places.

WHAT I’M DOING ABOUT IT

I’ve stretched myself to thin and I’m getting tired and having no fun.  I will be NOT writing for those places anymore.  I will be either selling my bloggingcents or importing it here.  I will be setting a schedule as to when I will visit the social networks.  Twitter will most likely be sporadic but the others I will have to set aside some time for.  And I will be taking guest posts for my food blog.  There are requirements though.  If you are interested on having your guest post featured on My Wooden Spoon; a blog with over 800 subscribers, and can meet the requirements below, please feel free to email me at lori {at} thecowboyshack {dot} com.

  • * MUST HAVE PHOTO, at least one.
  • * FINAL PHOTO MUST BE OF QUALITY.  I don’t mean to “discriminate” against fugly photos but it does     need to have good lighting, perhaps served on a plate, etc.  You can post photos of a cooking          process, that’s fine but the final finished dish needs to be the one of quality.
  • * Yes, it can be a republished recipe as long as you change the wording around a bit for Google’s sake.
  • * Doesn’t have to be a recipe.  As long as it’s food/cooking related somehow, it’s okay but it still must   have a photo.
With my priorities straightened out now, I will blog when I want and focus on some things that I really want to do online.  Oh, and I really do love my new online organizer;)  It has made a big difference for me this last week.
Peace out

  1. I did notice your absence on twitter but figured you were busy with real life. I’m glad to hear you have worked out a system that will work for you. If you ever need any help with anything, I’d be glad to help.

  2. First off, I’ve noticed. You might not think people notice but we do. Does this mean you should stress yourself out for me? Heck no! I’m just telling you I think, “Where’s my A Cowboy’s Wife” subscription delivered to my inbox?

As for the writing for all the different places…HELLO…DO I ever hear you! I write and write and it is hardly up at all and I get ZERO traffic. Promised traffic, links, stumbling but get nothing. Frustrating b/c they get my content, blood sweat and tears. I’m with you and thinking about cutting back big time.

The reviews, my office is full of them. So I also hear you there. It’s a LOT of work. Unless you review like you do or I do, its hard to realize what it is like. One or two products great, a few each day…oh, my! Time chunk!

Socializing, I think it is necessary. This is the only part of the post I am going to disagree with you. It is time consuming, it is work but socializing brings me more traffic and opens more doors then writing for other networks. Twitter is my number four traffic source. Just my opinion.

Thanks for writing this and girl, I’ll be here regardless of how many days you take off. Wink! Wink!

  3. This is supposed to be fun and if you’re not having fun then change things! And you are, which is great. {hugs} I do read you even if I don’t comment a lot.

  4. Hey girl! I read you – faithfully! However, I don’t blame you for slowing things down a bit. I don’t know how you get as much accomplished as you do. I only have a personal blog and even it gets neglected from time to time – so I don’t know how you keep up with everything. Life is too short to stress yourself out over everything! Go take care of yourself for a change and do something that makes you happy and we’ll still be here when you have something to share.

  5. Now you know that we miss you when we don’t get to hear from you, but most important is that YOU HAVE FUN! Life is just too short not to have fun and you need to do things with the boys too. I love reading your blogs (I hope you already know that!) but I do expect you to have fun in life and enjoy what you are doing and not just being a slave to a blog that MUST get done. I do expect you to take a few days off now and then, I mean golly, you’re not a machine! It’s okay Lori, I’m sorry to tell you…..but….you’re human! LOL Love ya girl!

  6. I miss you when you don’t post. But I also realize there is life other than blogs.

  7. Hey Lori! Listen, it is so good that you are taking time to listen to your body! If you are feeling this way, take a break. You have a lot going on. I did this about six months ago. I was totally overwhelmed, took a break, and have found better ways to do everything – and I’m doing less of everything, and it is working really well. I am happy and not so tired all of the time! So keep listening to your body!

  8. No advice from me because you already have a plan which I know you thought long and hard about. I know that whatever you decide to do you’ll do it well and be happy with how it all turns out. Taking some time off is a requirement for me. Thank goodness for Disney!

  9. Are you still accepting guest posts for the Wooden Spoon? I’d love to write for you.

I have to admit…I didn’t notice the absence…but I just started reading your blog today. :)
