I love the chick pictures. We have 2 donkeys, a dog and a cat. Unfortunately no birds but we have a lot of red tail hawks that like to sit in our tree.

sweetpea48s last blog post..<a href="http://www.sweethappening.com/2008/08/vote.html">Vote</a>

How cool! We "raised" chicks when I was in elementary school and it's something I'll never forget, especially when I see them at the PA Farm Show every year. At least yours grow up cute, unlike the ones we had in class.

Right now we just have a cat and many neighborhood squirrels who love messin' up my garden.

You are a better ranch wife than I. When I first met my cattlemen, I told him from the start I would do anything he wanted. I'd built fence, I'd work cattle, I'd clean out graineries, which is the nastiest job on the farm as I'm sure you know. But, with total conviction, I told him I wasn't going to milk cows and I wasn't going to raise chickens.
We run about 7,000 head of stockers each year and we live in a region of the country with a low population and a big oil reserve, so most everyone works in oil and gas, so high school drop-outs can start out working 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off for $65,000 a year. Needless to say, we can't compete with that pay. So, the work falls on us.
But, for some damn reason, my man has really been stuck on the chickens. A retired friend of ours raises them and sell a dozen eggs at the bar (yes, I buy our eggs from the local bar.) for .75. Each time my husband brings this chicken raising bullshit up, I ask him just how much money he thinks we'll save. I don't eat eggs, so I don't know the difference. But, according to my food critic husband, farm raised eggs reign superior.
Oh you know he's been trying to buy a milk cow, too, with milk prices skyrocketing as they have.

I can't compete with you, I only have two turtles. But if it counts, my mother has two dogs, a lot of pigeons and chickens. :)

Nothing here hatching.....but we do have brussel sproats coming! They look egg like! Not my favorite thing to eat, grew them for my father, while my father-in-law gets okra. How wide of a range is that!
