10 Useful Campfire Cooking Tools

By A Cowboy's Wife | January 5, 2017

Whether your the avid outdoorsy type or the occasional backyard camper, there are some useful campfire cooking tools that everyone should own.

I’ve shared, many times, our love for grilling but what doesn’t usually come up, is how often we start a pit fire to sit around.  We love to just sit and talk about the good times, watch the kids play, and enjoy the stars in the west Texas sky.  Anyone that has sit around a fire, has surely roasted a marshmallow to two, which leads me to the first campfire cooking tool!

Everyone MUST have roasting sticks but our absolute favorites are these telescoping skewers.  They are amazing for small fires, big fires, marshmallows, hot dogs and more.  We also love that they have colored handles so everyone knows which one is theirs.

Now you might not see this as a cooking tool, but the fact is, you can’t cook unless you have a good fire and this log grabber will sure come in handy when you need to shift around the wood in your pit.  Every campfire needs a log grabber vs a stick to move logs around!

I don’t know about the rest of the country but here in Texas, we cook a lot over open fires.  The great thing about this barbecue swivel grill is that you can put it over any open fire, on the ground or in a fire pit.  It’s really nice to have for coffee or frying up some fish!

That leads me to the next useful, and very essential campfire cooking tool, a cast iron pan.  We have a dutch oven and skillet, both are essentials.

You can’t cook over a campfire if you don’t have a grill set.  These are highly rated, great quality, and come with a case.  It makes much easier to keep track of it all.  Looks pretty nice too!

Maybe you’re not the avid outdoorsy type and need a little help on what meals to create?  This Easy Campfire Cookbook is awesome!  You’ll find recipes for the dutch oven and how to cook with foil packets.  Lots of great ideas in this campfire cookbook.

Speaking of foil packets……

You can make your own but man, these foil grill bags sure are handy!  You can get them in large, medium, and even small sizes.  I don’t mind using regular ol’ foil to make my own foil packet but I wouldn’t mind having these either.

Having a portable camping table is definitely a must. This one with the storage underneath is especially useful to store cooking essentials like spices, food, dinnerware, etc.

Finally, to take care of your cast iron, you need a good cleaner!  It uses all natural oils and agents so that it doesn’t breakdown our cast iron finish.

If you need a tasty dessert, check out my dutch oven cobbler! It’s delicious and perfect for campfire cooking!

Do you have kiddos that love to cook? I also shared Cooking Tools for Kids, and some of Truett’s favorites!
