Ways to Relax and Recharge

By A Cowboy's Wife | February 4, 2014

Hey y’all! I’m sharing some tips for a great start with Team Kellogg’s again and my final tip is below! The brand is regular in our home and I’m proud to be part of their family! I’m sad that this campaign is about over! I hope you’ve enjoyed the tips I’ve shared. Relax and recharge, what’s that?  As a mom of three boys, wife of 21+ years, and woman of many other duties, I can get completely exhausted and overwhelmed.  And like most of us moms, we tend to forget about ourselves and focus on everyone else.  Well, I want you to stop that!!  My dad always said, “You’ve got to take care of #1 so you can take care of 2, 3, and 4”.  It’s true you know.  If we’re not healthy, physically and mentally, how can we take care of others?  My goal today, is to share with you, ways to relax and recharge.  They are simple, effective, and fun.

The most obvious way to recharge, is to start your day off with a great breakfast.  My go-to breakfast cereals are Kellogg’s Raisin Bran and Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats.  Ask any of my fellas here.  I never run out of these two and if it gets low, they know they better back off because it’s MINE!   I love to add sliced bananas to my raisin bran and I guess it’s rubbed off on Truett too, because he has to have them in his cereal.

Some other ways to help you recharge are:

  • Exercise your body – Exercising…I know right? Who would have thought that?   Try taking a brisk walk , ride a bike, or maybe even some dancing in this house!  Just get moving!
  • Exercise your mind – I don’t know about you but as a stay-at-home mom, my brain doesn’t get worked as much as it could be.  Puzzles y’all!
  • Connect with others – There’s nothing like having your friends give you a happy boost for the day!  Get together with friends or family and have lunch, get your nails done, shop!

There are also moments where we just need to decompress.  Relaxing is the hardest thing for us to do, I think.   In fact, I don’t think my brain every stops and my body finally gets some rest when I fall fast asleep.  It’s funny though, our bodies need that resting period.  It’s how they heal themselves and regenerate.  It’s essential to our well-being. My most favorite way to relax, is to watch a movie that will make me cry.  I know that’s silly but it’s relaxing and releasing for me.  If that’s not your thing, here are a few more ways to relax:

  • Nap!  Yep, I find that 20 minutes is perfect. I get just enough sleep but not so much that I feel groggy when I wake up.  It totally relaxes me, and rejuvenates me.
  • Reading – I have always loved to read but never had the time.  One day, I just up and decided that I wanted to read more, so I do now. It’s relaxing and educational.
  • Find a hobby – Hobbies are a great way to relax; crochet, quilting, photography, crafting, etc.  I LOVE to crochet in the Winter!
  • Spa day – TOTALLY relaxing and will, most likely, recharge you as well!   Don’t like full body massages?  Try getting just a facial.  It’s crazy how many muscles we have in our face that are constantly working.  You’ll feel amazing!
