BOCA, Not Just for Vegetarians

By A Cowboy's Wife | April 14, 2010

In my journey with weight loss, I’m trying really hard to find products that I can substitute for unhealthy things I normally eat now.    I was introduced to BOCA, a food product that vegetarians/vegans seem to love since it’s soy based but could I love it as much? Don’t freak cause I said soy. I assure you that they are VERY tasty!

BOCA is packed full of protein and has over 50% less fat that a regular “meat” burger.  That makes for a healthy food choice. In fact, Weight Watchers has added the BOCA products and by what I’ve seen, you’re going to only be using 1 point value per serving!!!  Weight Watchers is awesome so to see the two partner together completely rocks!  I’m doing weight watchers so being able to have a BOCA burger without using lots of points will surely help me reach my weight loss goal just a little faster.

One of my favorite things to do is use the BOCA Ground Crumbles in a salad; some lettuce, tomatoes, BOCA crumbles and I’ve got a high protein, healthy lunch.  For breakfast you make BOCA burritos with the crumbles too!  There are tons of recipes that use the different products so you won’t have to worry about having the same thing.

I’ve been eating these now for a few weeks and I have to say, I’m really impressed with the quality and nutritional benefits.  I’m so happy to be  introduced to them because they are not a regular part of eating habits and I can feel good about that.

Add fiber to everything. Fruit and a small amount of nuts to Greek yogurt (higher protein than regular) Double your veggies in soups, egg scrambles. and wraps. Try to make on meal a veggie/fruit smoothie. Dates, banana, and berries are very sweet and awesome if you add a few handfuls of spinach and almond milk.

i’ve been vegetarian for over 20 years, so eating healthy is part of my lifestyle. i rarely crave junky foods, and consider them a treat when we do have them. We grow a lot of our own fruits and veggies, so picking a healthy snack…actually means walking outside and picking your snack. :) i think having an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies available at all times is really key. If you have junk in your house, your going to reach for it…if you have healthy foods available your going to reach for those. thanks for the chance, we LOVE boca!!

I no longer use ‘whites’ (white rice, sugar, bread, etc.,) when preparing meals for my family. Instead, I’ve opt to using ‘brown’ products (brown rice, brown suagr, wheat and/or multi-grain bread, etc.,)!
