With a Heavy Heart

By A Cowboy's Wife | December 14, 2009

With only ten days until Christmas, it’s with a heavy heart that I am sharing the news of Shellie’s tragic loss. The loss of her 2 yr old son, who drowned in their pool—in their new home where they just moved to.    Having had the scare of a lifetime myself, I cannot even imagine what Shellie and her family are enduring right now.

I’m sharing the news because I want you to see that it can happen to anyone. It only takes seconds.   AND TO  REMIND YOU OF  WHAT IS TRULY IMPORTANT IN LIFE.  So when you’re sitting there whining about not receiving your prize yet that you won during a giveaway, or that your son broke something, or about how long the line is at the grocery store; you need to realize that there are so many other things to worry about in this lifetime than stupid crap like that.

There is nothing in this world that can compare to losing a child, a piece of your body and soul  but I know that they’ll pull through it.  I pray Shellie that you and your family can find peace in your heart.  My love & prayers are with you.

Bryson Ross

Very well said. I do not know Shellie at all but as a father, I can not get over how horrible I feel right now for her & her family. I came across this info about an hour & 1/2 ago on twitter and I can’t imagine how I’d feel if it was me dealing with this. My prayers are with her, her family & friends and her beautiful child.

    OH, Lori…that picture.

I am a bigger mess now. I ache for Shellie and her family. What else can we say? It is just so horrible. And tragic. And it reminds us, as you said, and I said in my own post, that what matters most is your family, your God and keeping them both close.

I just recently became a mom. My son is 8 months old and the thought of something happening to him breaks my heart. I can not imagine what Shellie must be going through right now. One should never have to bury your children. I pray that she has the strength to make it through all of this. We’ll be praying for her and the family.

Shellie is absolutely in my prayers today. I saw on twitter that some people are saying some absolutely awful things to her… it makes me so angry. As if she needs to have more pain added to her life right now. I’m so, so sorry for the loss of her precious son, and I will be keeping her whole family in my prayers.

I am so sad for Shellie and her entire family. Having her husband overseas does not help either. We will be praying for her family and for her husband’s safe return (he is in the military for those of you that don’t know). From what I have read on line about Shellie, she is a strong, loving woman and for anyone that writes horrible things on twitter, they should be ashamed of themselves. Let her grieve without grief..she has lost something precious that can never be replaced..just surround her with light and love everyone!

OMGosh I can’t imagine loosing a child at any time, but especially this time of year. My heart and prayers goes out to Bryson’s family, and may they make it through this holiday season. It’s so true that we all need to remember what really matters in this lifetime. Thanks for sharing the story no matter how hard it was to write. With much appreciation and sympathy, Sherry

This is such a tragedy for their family and there are no words to express what pain they must be feeling.

I know I haven’t stopped hugging my kids and you are so right, especially this time of year – PRIORITIES.

I know it brings little comfort to know that he’s in Heaven with the Holy Father now, so
I’ll convey my sympathy to your and your family.
Allow yourself all the time you need to grieve together as a family.
Do not place blame on one another, for we do not know the purpose of the Holy Father. He may in fact have been protecting your son from something in the future, since the Holy Father knows what is to come.

I lost a child to SIDS while my husband was deployed in Pakistan so this story strikes a chord with me. I looked for an addy to contact her to send my condolences and see if she needs help with the expenses on her sons funeral but couldn’t find any. Please share with her to try not to go down the “what if” trail and be kind to herself. Losing a child is something you never get over. It changes you. That being said, it is something that you can survive. Hopefully the military is on top of this and will help this poor family with coping skills(as they did ours). Additionally please feel free to pass along my email. I can’t completely understand how she feels since everyone is unique but I can maybe help a little as far as having a shoulder to lean on.
