A Look at BGH Hard Anodized Cookware

By A Cowboy's Wife | December 15, 2010

BHG (Better Homes & Gardens) now offer a line of non-stick hard anodized cookware, priced at the affordable $149 for a 13 piece set.

I’ve owned a few sets of hard anodized and was happy to review.  It felt weighty but not so heavy that your wrists are about to break from lifting a pan (and I’ve had those sets before).  All the handles on the pans and lids are covered with the silicon grips to avoid the heat and easier gripping.  It’s oven safe up to 400′ and has glass lids to see how your food is cooking.  Cleanup is a breeze and while you can put them in the dishwasher, I always recommend hand washing.

This set includes:

  • 1 covered saucepan with lid 1.5-qt.
  • 1 covered saucepan with lid and steamer insert 2.5-qt.
  • 1 covered Dutch oven with lid 4-qt.
  • 1 covered stock pot with lid 8-qt.
  • 1 skillet 8.5″
  • 1 skillet 10″
  • 1 covered deep skillet with lid 4-qt.

See the video for a closer look at the set.

I cooked a few things with the set and felt that everything cooked evenly and I was able to clean it up easily.  For the price and the amount of pieces, I definitely recommend the set.

What type of cookware do you use?  Do you find that some sets cook better than others?

Disclosure: This cookware set was sent to me for review as part of my participation in the Walmart Mom program. All opinions are my own, always have been, always will be…..surely you guys know that by now;)

Okay big question: What’s better – hard anodized, porcelain or stainless steel? I’ve only had the basic teflon coated cookware and it’s time to upgrade to a better quality but I have no idea which is better.

One is not better than the other Jenn…it really comes down to personal preference. I just prefer nonstick and if you want cheaper, get enamel but if you can afford, hard anodized will likely last much longer.

Oh you know I just saw those in Walmart around Thanksgiving. Jon saw my eyeballing them and gave me the look because I have cookware falling out of my cabinets as it is. But I really like that deep skillet. Are these pieces sold individually or do you have to buy the whole set because I really need a deep skillet like that.

I have a piece of this a piece of that. I don’t have a set more like a make shift set.
Same with my knives. This set however looks awesome!

I got this set from my husband for Christmas. So far I’m really loving them. Amazing how much better your food cooks when using a good pan! However, have you noticed discoloring on the outsides of the pans? They are no longer like the brush stainless steal, but are starting to look a little rough after less than a full months use. They are spotty, dull and just looked discolored in some spots. Still cooks great but getting to be ugly. I admit though that I do tend to toss them in the dishwasher often so maybe thats the reason?
I’m looking forward to my first burner seared and oven baked steaks tonight in the tall frying pan so hoping the “oven safe to 400 degrees” pans out :)
Thanks for any response or ideas! Melissa
