Big Boss Oil-less Fryer Review

By A Cowboy's Wife | October 7, 2012

The Big Boss Oil-less Fryer is a healthy alternative to frying.  I hadn’t ever seen anything like this but love the concept. You can cook one thing or multiple items in at at the same time. It comes will all sorts of trays, books, , spray bottle, and even a nifty ‘grabber’ to pull out your tray easily, while avoiding the heat.

Here’s a quick look at the Big Boss in action. It should give you an idea of the size and how it works.

The Big Boss is a 16 quart capacity so there’s no doubt you can fit quite a bit.  The entire appliance is quite big so this might not be something you leave out on your counter-top all the time, unless you plan to make it a daily use in substitution of your stove.

We cooked fries two different times. The first time, we threw them in without anything, cooked, and didn’t like the turnout.  The second time, we seasoned the fries before putting them into the fryer. We added a little bit of olive oil and layered the fries vs piling them up, and this time around, they were much better.  The only problem I have with this, is you can’t cook a lot or the fries won’t be done all the way through.  It would take several batches to get enough to feed my guys.  I know it says you don’t need oil but if you don’t use a little bit, they will come out kinda stale and almost sort of…..rubbery (for lack of a better word).  USE  OIL is my big suggestion.

The Big Boss will also bake, broil, roast, and dehydrate.  I love to do some fruit and jerky in it.  Maybe I’ll try that next time.

Overall, with some tweaking of seasonings, oil, and cooking times, the Big Boss Oil-Less Fryer can be a great alternative for healthier cooking.  I don’t feel like it’s something we’ll use often but the concept is fabulous and I think it will be useful to many of you.

It’s definitely and interesting concept. I know for me personally, too many cooking gadgets in my kitchen is making me a very disorganized cook.

Agreed. I have too many, most of which are stored. :/

The only big cooking item I wish I had on my cabinet is my rotissiere, I love it to make chicken in. Unfortunately I have my dehydrator out on another cabinet and on yet another my vacuum sealer, then on the last one my microwave. I have little counter space. Yet, my hubs doesn’t want me storing my kitchen stuff in his garage or the garden shed, so I have no alternative at the present. Wish I had a basement. I gave up my deep fat fryer long ago to help us eat healthier. We bake our fries, and no they are not as good as deep fried, but alas you do get used to them over time.
