Cook-Free Options for Holiday Entertaining

By A Cowboy's Wife | December 5, 2012

Well, almost cook free.  One of my favorite things to buy for holiday entertaining (or any entertaining), is party trays.  These can be trays of vegetables, fruit, etc.  For the holidays though, meats and cheese are always good!   For our small gathering, we opted for the small deli platter, TGI Friday’s Buffalo Wings, Delimex Taquitos, and dessert.

I don’t know if you know this, but at Walmart, you can order these round deli platters full of fresh cut deli meats & cheese (and many other items).  You’ll need to order 24hrs in advance to give them plenty of time to fulfill any other orders, cut the meats & cheese fresh, and display them on a serving platter complete with olives and tomatoes.  There are three different sizes ranging from $18.00 – $38.00  I bought the small and was so surprised at how heavy the platter was and how long it lasted us.  It was a LOT! My platter came with deli sliced ham, roasted turkey, roast beef, pepperjack cheese (my fave), cheddar, and a colby/swiss mix.  It had a bowl of olives in the center and tomatoes around.  It was all delicious but I kept taking a roll of turkey and wrapping pepperjack around it and eating it just like that.  SOOOOOO good!!!

And of course you have to have dessert…..I might put a spin on our pumpkin pie this Christmas but I definitely want something new to add to our dessert menu.  We always have pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and banana pudding.   Maybe a Red Velvet Cake Roll?  Or maybe a Hershey’s Cake?  Oh my cow, I’m drooling.  This year, I’m thinking a Paula Deen Orange Pound Cake will be on the Christmas dessert menu.  While I do love to bake from scratch, this pound cake is cheaper to buy than to make and it has the same ‘made from scratch’ taste to it.  And it’s pretty!!!

I’m not the fanciest of hosts and most often could use some ideas.  I know that Walmart will be putting out a Holiday Entertaining guide on December the 5th to help folks like myself who are a little bit challenged in this area.   Be on the lookout for that.  As always, you can count on Walmart’s Low Price Guarantee too.  I think some folks tend to forget that their ad match and guarantee applies to groceries as well but it does!  If you need some ideas, check out walmart on pinterest.  They have lots of ideas for entertaining, festive DIY crafts, and more.  Look for the magnetic nail color while you’re there. Beautiful!!

Looks like Walmart is the place to go, got to admit that the food looks great, It’s a pity that some items like the cake are more expensive to make than to buy, but in some ways that good, less work for the cook. like your site it’s uncluttered and easy to get around.
