Keepin’-em Unfresh

By A Cowboy's Wife | December 17, 2007

If you let your horses sit too long without ridin’ them, they get fresh and will buck you off into the sunset.  To keep this from happening, my son rides a different horse everyday.  As soon as he gets home from school, he plays with Truett a bit, visits with us for 30 seconds, and then saddles up.  All I could think about while taking this pictures, was how much he looks like a grown man.  Geez, I feel he’s growing up so fast and I’m wondering where the time flew.

Here’s Tyler saddlin’ up.

I would love to ride again but it would take one of those stair lifts to get me up on horse these days.

Tyler’s gonna ride him for a minute in the pen.  He does this to warm him up and to knock any fresh off.  This is much safer than just going straight out into the pasture.  By doing this warm up in the pen, you are most likely going to prevent any surprise bronc rides out in the pasture.

My biggest fear is Tyler getting bucked off somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, hurt, and us not being able to find him.

And he’s off…….I’m yelling, “BE CAREFUL!!!”–as he rides into the sunset.

I’ve ridden a horse once in my 30 year existance and I could do with out them. I don’t mind riding in a carriage thats being pulled, but i did not enjoy riding.

By the way, You’ve been tagged!!

I have a two year old coming three and I have to break him out in January. I think I too am getting too old for all that. But after this one I will have two mre to break out and I am finished with that!! I love that picture of him riding off into the….well where ever he is ridding of into!! Great pictures!! Hey I’ve got a Tyler too! I’m so envious of these cool pictures your taking with that new camera ~ very nice!

My 14-yr old daughter is starting her first colt this year. I know what you mean about how quickly they grow. That worried Mama gene runs through me too ~ especially when they are riding young, fresh colts!
