Son Up to Son Down on Sunday

By A Cowboy's Wife | September 12, 2010

Lame title I know but my brain is fried and I’m about to fall asleep.  We had the rodeo last night and while they didn’t win, they did have fun.  Tyler did not ride the bronc for the whole 8 seconds. (video coming soon)  My BIL and his kiddos were down so instead of making them stay at the rodeo until wee hours, they came home with me and Truett and fell right to sleep.  Sunday morning rolls around and Truett is in our room bright & early asking for breakfast.  I make him wait for about 30 minutes to give the others a little more time to sleep since they were all in our living room.  He waited and said, “it’s taking forever!”.  I finally decided to make tortillas for potato & egg burritos.  We had a long day ahead of us and they had to get back to New Mexico.  Our cow had her baby calf the other night and she needed to be cleaned out.  We also needed to take that bull from the pasture and haul our other bull over there so that’s what we did.

Since we woke up to thunder and rain, I decided to wear my mud boots.

We penned up Floyd.  Well, that’s what I call him because I’m too uncreative to think of anything cool.  I think he was sticking his tongue out at me…We had to spray them down with fly spray…the spray helped a bunch.

While we did all this, we had to tie up Killer so that he wouldn’t chase the bull around everywhere and get him mad. He sulked a bit, in his favorite chair.

Truett was our gate opener. He thinks he’s all grownup already and insists on doing as much as possible.  He was turning around to make sure I wasn’t following him…because he can do everything by himself now.

I didn’t take photos of the cow getting cleaned out because I highly doubt any of you would want to see that.  We couldn’t find the baby calf either. He was probably laying in the thick, very lush grass, hiding from us all.  Maybe I can get one next time.  We did a ton of more chores, got home and did even more chores.  I chose to sit in the truck and wait while the boys fed the horses.  Sparkplug paid me a visit at the truck….he is very photogenic don’t you think?

After a small rest, I had to tackle the kitchen.  They would be installing the cabinets and countertops the next day so I had to remove everything from the kitchen. WHAT A CHORE THAT WAS!!! oh my gawd.  I have way too much stuff.   Here is just part of it! It actually took me until 12:30am to get it all out and cleaned up in there. I had soooooo much!

(taken with iphone)

I did get all, except the fridge stuff though….

I’m ready for them to show up!

It’s time for bed. My oldest son stayed a bit late with me, talking about his day, the weekend, and his brother. We always have really good discussions late at night.  He walked in one direction to his room to sleep, I walked the other.  We woke up to Truett and ended the evening with Tyler.  Son up to Son down.

Sounds like you have a very busy, but enjoyable life. I like how you put from son up to son down.

I would really love to just spend one day in your life … everything looks so peaceful. One of these days (when my husband wins the Lotto) we’ll live the country life. I’m just not cut out for the suburbs, nosy neighbors and manicured lawns.

That looks like an enormous chore! It will be so nice when it’s all finished!
I know what you mean about having great before-bed conversations with your son. That’s when our son and I had the majority of our best talks. When he went off to college last fall, I missed those sooooo much!

Holy moly, that is a lot of stuff from your kitchen, I bet that took a while. You’ll have to show us the after pictures, and thats a good sized kitchen. Sparkplug looks cute, I get my time to talk with my oldest on our walk to school in the morning, so I know what you mean. Good luck next time Tyler! Long Live Cowboys!

wow — it never ceases to amaze me how much stuff is in our kitchens. when we moved i would pack boxes and boxes and look in the cabinet and say “WHY IS THERE STILL STUFF IN HERE?”

it’s a great mystery of the universe.

can’t wait to see how it turns out!
