Update: Giveaway is over but please check out the app! Thanks!
Truett is finally getting to the age where he can help in the kitchen more and with the help of an iPad food app and some kid friendly recipes, we are sure to create some memories!
Celebrity Chef Marcus Samuelsson has added to the already large selection of recipes by creating exclusive recipe content for the fantastic iPad app, Big Fork Little Fork. It’s an Apple iPad app that provides tools for kids to get them excited about food and help create family meals. I personally love every single thing about this app. They did a great job with it and not only does it capture my eye, my son loves the photos and game. He likes to pick different recipes and just look at them and he loves the game.
I created a video to give you a quick look at it but some of the things that I love are:
- Big photos
- Clear, bold steps and ingredient list
- Fun games to engage the kiddo and learn about food
- Shopping List
- Search
- Extremely user friendly
- Cool menu with photo icons
- EASY recipes with nutritional information
- Very cool videos (love the peeling vegetables one!!)
WIN AN IPAD!
To celebrate his efforts in creating these fabulous recipes, I’m giving away an iPad! Thanks to Kraft Foods, I get to give you the chance to own one of the coolest gadgets around! One winner will receive an Apple iPad 16GB, Wifi.
One lucky winner will win this fabulous iPad. I love mine and have no doubt that you will too!

I think something simple enough for a preschool aged child to be able to help out would be awesome like pics showing the measurements and the ingreadients as well as words for the mom or dad to help teach the child while doing something fun together.
My app would start with a term, you would input the term, a food item, them, chef, and then it would ask you more questions such as a certain course, other ingredients and it would eventually narrow down what you are looking for with options.
Like a choose your own adventure for food.

my App would be ingredient substitutions -especially Baking how many time shave been cooking and do not have what we need on hand
It would be awesome if it could somehow link you to coupons for some of the products used in the recipe.
Well my app would be homeaid breakfast food and lunch and dinner and have videos and questions and people could add there own recipe! :)
it would be cool if you list nearest stores which carry the specialized items listed in the recipe.
My ideal app would ask what I’m hungry for and then give me ideas.

My favorite thing about the Big Fork Little Fork food/recipe iPad app is “If you’ve ever been frustrated by having a picky eater, this is the perfect iPad app for you” and I am defiantely frustrated by a picky eater!! This would be great for me! Would love to try out the great recipes!
ksceviour@hotmail.com
i like that this is a techy way to get my daughter interested in cooking. believe me, if it’s on the ipad, she would want to see it!
my ideal app would have things sorted by allergy – we have a dairy allergy here, but have friends with wheat, nuts, peanut, egg, soy, corn, etc. allergies – and trying to find recipes that match different combinations of allergies can be tricky.
Although I don’t have an Iphone (or any “I” thing!), I think the ideal app would be one that has detailed recipes and includes a shopping list for that recipe — so that when you are in the grocery store you can just pull it up and see what you need to get! (There may already be an app for this, but remember, I am not a member of the “I” club yet) :)
I think the Big Fork/Little Fork app would be great! Especially if you have kids. It would be a great way to start teaching them how to cook and become familiar in the kitchen, as well as teaching them health and nutrition at the same time. Great idea, Kraft!! :)
My ideal food app would include a lot of the same as this one. Shopping list (with add to shopping list feature), kid friendly and video’s.

I would love something like the Big Fork, Little Fork, but with a more grown up appeal to it. Lots of pictures, videos, etc. Would be nice to see a recipe and then be able to click on different ingredients and techniques mentioned to see more info or even videos about that specific thing and then be able to go right back into the recipe.
I love that it will help kids learn techniques instead of just being recipes – nice touch!

I would use any app that lets me plug in a few ingredients & it gave me a great recipe to try!!
I don’t even know if this is possible with the iPad but I’d love to have a food app that is voice controlled. It would show me video instructions for a recipe and allow me to pause, replay, slow down parts of the video with voice commands. This would be helpful while cooking so I wouldn’t have to touch it with food fingers.
The app needs to be easily seen on one page with no scrolling. A picture is important. I like groups of recipes with common ingredients so I only need 1 shopping list for the whole lot.
One of my favorite features from the video is the shopping lists.

that even if i couldnt understand it my kid could!!

my ideal food app would be one w simple & clear instructions with photos to show the process & outcome…where you can put in ingredients you have & a recipe will pop up. i’m not the best cook in the world, so i would definitely need the app to spell out everything for me. lol :o) it also would be nice if it had gluten-free alternatives or more natural alternatives to standard recipes.

My ideal food app would solve my son’s gluten free issues.
My ideal food app would be to link into my Grandma’s recipes and have those all accessible, but I know that isn’t feasible.

My ideal food/recipe app would look just like this one. It’s easy to use and very clear.
My ideal food app would allow me to build my own virtual cookbook from the various recipes I have saved on food sites all over the internet, and would also allow me to select dishes for the week and build grocery lists from the ingredients needed.
It would also adjust the recipe if, for example, the recipe says it serves 4 and I was having a dinner party for 10, I could change the servings to 10 and it would recalculate the recipe for me (ingredients, cooking time, temp if applicable).

Additionally, it would show nutrition information pulled from the web then stored locally so once you used an ingredient, or made a dish, it would store the nutrition locally but did not involve adding it all myself.

My ideal app would walk me thru each step – slowly and quite detailed.. since I am a beginner in the kitchen. :) When it comes to baking – blind fold me, I am up for the challenge. But cooking dinner – disaster every time. Luckily my fiance and son have been patient. Therefore, I need an app with video tutorials, pause button, audio, lots of pictures and measurements.. and maybe user gallery images to show that mine does not have to look as perfect as their images. I hate using cookbooks b/c I get SO frustrated seeing the beautiful creations! Is it ok if mine is a little lopsided? :)
My favorite part of this app is basically – it sounds (and looks) JUST like the perfect app I explained in my mandatory entry – detailed, user friendly, easy to use – AND a shopping list! Sign me up..

My ideal app would be a recipe book that uses something like the digital photo frames that could just sit on your kitchen counter. It would have buttons for search (digitally of course) along with buttons you could set up based on your preferences, like a quick button for chicken, beef, etc. The app would create a shopping list for ingredients based on your preferences for the week and have the capacity to check off what is already available in your home.

My ideal food/recipe app would, off the top of my head, have these features:
– Able to use when you’re not connected to the Internet. I had a big problem with this when I still had an iPod Touch * it broke recently :( *. The apps I tried out wouldn’t let me re-check the ingredient list while I was at the grocery store, for example, because I wasn’t connected to the net.
– Able to download new recipes right into the app from thousands of recipes while connected to the Internet.
– While online, able to add recipes to your favorites without necessarily needing to download it to your device right then.
– Able to rate/review/comment on each recipe while online…maybe even while offline and have the choice to sync your opinions when you’re online. Maybe you want to comment on it and keep it to yourself.
– Some sort of social aspect. Add friends, message, etc. So you can email people if you’ve got a question or want to congratulate them on an awesome recipe!
– Oooh this one is important: easy portion adjustment. Smart tool that automatically adjusts the ingredient amounts when you input the amount of servings you need.
– Nutritional information is calculated based on ingredients and listed with every recipe.
Since the app is geared toward kids (and parents) I think it’s really neat that it has nutrition related games! That’s definitely unique.

My favorite recipe/food app would be one that could use everyday food items around the house you can use. No fancy stuff I can’t find in my store. It would show me recipes for what I have on hand. It would also have apps for every purpose, like breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, quick meals, and last minute tips.

My ideal food App would be an App that converts any recipe into a healthy version of that recipe. So for example: If I looked up for a taco recipe , the app would convert into healthy ingredients which would be turkey ground meet, fat free shredded cheese, fat free sour cream, and etc… Eating healthy doesn’t mean that I have to stop eating what I like!

I’ve never used an “app” so I don’t know how to answer the mandatory question; however, we do have an iPad, and, I refer to recipes online almost on a daily basis, so I know this is something I would use. Thanks for the giveaway.

I’m anticipating that what I like best will be “You and your kids will have a blast in the kitchen…” especially with my 12-year-old son, whom I don’t always connect the best with–although when we’re in the kitchen making food we both enjoy, everything is great. and, btw, it will be him who teaches me about “apps”
My ideal food app would be something that lets me choose meals for the day and adds up the calories, nutrition content for the day. I’d like to be able to select how many calories I want to consume for the day (1200-1500) and then it would list the recipes for the day that I can choose from.

I’d like to see an app which allows you to click on individual ingredients in a recipe and see a list of possible substitutions (thereby making it easier for those of us who cook for allergic family members). my ideal app would be one that I could enter my own recipes
Well, I`m far from prof`s, but I`d really like to have some app that would give me opportunity to when I a few groceries that I currently have, that app shows which meals I can make from those groceries (also it can be sorted by speed of time that is needed for preparing that meal, or according some other rules, like: spicy, exotic, simple, romantic…)
Also, there can be app for connecting with all online followers of some recipe blog for asking instant help in making some meal, or idea for preparing some unique meal!
I must be honest! I never used your app, so I would lie if I say that something is wrong or good with it! Sorry :) I primarily entered here because of giveaway! ( I know, I`m so bad person!) Even if I do not win that Ipad, I would be happy to know if my previous comment was helpful! :)

My idea food app would allow me to plug in the contents of my cupboard and refrigerator and tell me what I can make with what I have. It would let me log my grocery purchases, and subtract what I use, so I can easily re-stock. And if I could store prices as I visit different stores, so I can more easily comparison shop, that would make it even better.
it would be easy to follow for novice cooks and it would allow me to change the recipe based on portion size. i cook for myself and a lot of recipes are for families and that causes problems (and math…). No fun!

I would like an app that lets me look up the recipes by the ingredients I have – ex. someone gave me red wine but I dont drink it, so Id like to easily find recipes that use it while out shopping so I can pick up the other ingredients
I love that its focused on kids, great for my grandkids to learn the best way to eat while making it seem fun
My recipe/food app would have step by step instructions and possibly step by step videos.
I like that it has recipes, articles and videos!

I would like one that I could type in some ingredients that I want to use and it comes up with a recipe that uses those ingredients
Others have said it, but I’d like to type in ingredients I have around the house and have them show me recipes I can make

I would love to see a recipe app for gluten free foods
I like the dinnertime tips section. It is wonderful advice to help the picky eaters
That would be easy to read with recipes that kids would like.

I would like a food app to help with allergies or illness needs.
An app that would also gauge my preschooler’s fickle mood!!! Since that probably hasn’t been developed yet, one that will give a good variety for little ones.
I love that the app has video to help me with my recipes. I need all the help I can get.
ideal app for me would be for meals done in under 10 minutes.
