Cupcake Photo Toppers for Halloween

By A Cowboy's Wife | October 12, 2012

The possibilities for Halloween-themed cupcakes are endless.  The creative junkies out there are making fingers, ghosts, and mummy dogs but not all of us are so creative or have the time.  And well, sometimes simple works best.  If you don’t have time to make cupcakes, just grab some cupcakes at Wamart. They have big one and mini ones that you could simply stick cupcake toppers on.

There are so many kids in Truett’s class year that I decided it would be too much for me to decorate each cupcake with elaborate ‘spooky’ designs.  This year, I decided to use cupcake toppers using photo stickers.  Here’s how I did it:

Cupcake Photo Toppers

Materials

  • Photo Stickers
  • Toothpicks or Popsicle sticks
  • Cupcakes
  • Cupcake Wrappers
  • Cupcake Stand

Instructions

  1. Create your photo sticker and place order.
  2. Remove sticker from the sheet and on the back, stick a toothpick or 2″ Popsicle stick on the back of sticker.
  3. Take another sticker and cover toothpick or popsicle stick.
  4. Place on cupcake.

I went through Halloween photos and picked one I had of Truett dressed as a ninja.  The photo department on Walmart.com has Halloween templates for you to use, you just need a photo to go inside the ‘frame’.

You can see the various Halloween templates below.  It’s very simple to use and you can even crop the photo, add effects, move it around, etc.  I had to move the photo down so that it didn’t cut off the top of his head. I played with the different ones before picking the one I liked.  Click on image to enlarge.

I placed my order of 1 sheet of 20 stickers for $4.41, delivered.  Free shipping y’all.  They turned out soooo stinkin’ cute!  I love them!

Because I wanted the focus to be on the cupcake photo topper, I chose cupcake wrappers with no design. I picked black and orange, with opposite colored icing as the wrapper, and finally placing the opposite colored cupcake topper to finish them off.  The cupcake topper was easy peasy.  You lay a sticker right side down, place a toothpick in the middle, and then place another sticker on top of that.

I mixed up some icing using Wilton’s gels, iced some cupcakes, and topped them off with these Halloween Sticker Cupcake Toppers.

What a neat way to decorate. I would have never thought of something like that.
