Fighting Hunger by Donating to In-Store Food Drive

By A Cowboy's Wife | November 21, 2010

Food hunger breaks my heart. I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to be hungry. I’ve had to send my kids away because we had no money for food so when there’s a food drive happening, I’m happy to get involved.

Right now at your local Walmart, you can help by donating nonperishable food items, like canned goods and pasta, to the in-store food drive and help fight hunger. There’s a huge box at the front of the store and even if it’s just one can, it helps. It really helps. You have until November 22nd to get those food products in so if you can spare it, get an extra can of beans and toss it in the box. If you need some ideas as to what items to get, here are a few to get you started:

  • Canned tuna
  • Canned chicken
  • Peanut butter + jam
  • Spaghetti sauce + noodles
  • Canned beans (baked, garbanzo, kidney, etc.)
  • Canned nuts
  • Canned/boxed soup/stew
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fruits in lite syrup
  • 100 percent juice boxes and cans
  • Canned milk
  • Evaporated milk

Watch below as I shop for food to donate to the food drive.  I was able to get tons of food for $50 bucks as you can see in the video.  Everything except the peanut butter was Great Value because those prices were the cheapest which gave me the biggest bang for the bucks.

Will you be lending a hand this holiday season to the less fortunate, either through this food drive or through another one?

Disclosure: Compensation has been provided by Walmart for my time and efforts to shop and create this post. All opinions are my own, always have been, always will be.

I hadn’t noticed a food basket at our Walmart. We’re shopping there tomorrow, so I’ll look for it. Thanks for letting us know!
