Halloween Pumpkin Carving Made Easy

By A Cowboy's Wife | October 14, 2012

I’ll be the first to admit, I haven’t carved a pumpkin in years so I had no idea on how they’ve advanced the sets and tutorials to make it easy.  I felt encouraged when I read through the instructions of this cool Halloween pumpkin carving pattern and tool set.  I really felt like ‘I can do this!’.

First off, you pick the pattern you want to use.  If you look in the top of the right hand corner, you’ll be shown the difficulty level of each pattern.  I picked one that was fairly easy since I was very much a beginner in pumpkin carving.  You start be cleaning out your pumpkin.  This shows you to cut a hole in the bottom instead of the top, which makes perfect sense.   By the way,  it was neat to see Texas grown pumpkins at my local Walmart.  I noticed the label immediately and was very happy with the selection.

After you have cleaned your pumpkin, you need to tape your pattern onto the pumpkin where you plan on carving.   It shows you where to fold so that the pattern stays in form.

Once taped, you use the tracer wheel to go around the pattern, leaving that very pattern on the actual pumpkin once the paper is removed.

After you have traced the pattern into the pumpkin, you begin carving.  There is a bigger ‘knife’ and a smaller one to get into the creases and smaller details.

After you’ve cleaned, traced, carved, and sculpted for a neater appearance, you light it up!  I was very proud of how mine turned out. I think I did great for a beginner and it’s all thanks to the Halloween carving kit!!  They made it easy for us!  Have you carved a pumpkin lately? If so, what was it and did you have a pattern or free hand it?
