Home of the Rattlesnake Who Brought Rain

By A Cowboy's Wife | August 11, 2008

Yep, it’s still hot which means rattlesnakes are still around.  Luckily we haven’t had that many but here’s one that could have easily bitten one of us.  It was right at the gate where we ALL go back and forth to the barn and shop.

My father-in-law was walking that way to check on his chickens when, all of the sudden, he was running back my way into the house.  Come right back out with his gun.  Of course, I ran in to get my camera!  I wasn’t quick enough though to get a LIVE shot of the rattler.  I got the picture right when he was getting shot!

Where were the boys?  They were listening to MP3 players and napping.  Good thing to because I bet you anything had they walked over there, they would NOT have been paying attention!

So anyways, there’s a sayin’ that if you hang the rattlesnake up that it will rain.  Is it true?  Well, it rained all day and night 2 days later so you tell me;)

Wow! That gives me shivers!!! I grew up in rattlesnake country . . . out by Sweetwater. Is that near where you are? Never heard of hanging the snake up for rain but I know they always need rain out that way!!

Well that is interesting. We have Timber Rattlers here, hang out on stone walls. I have never seen one but they are evidently in the area. What we do have is a lot of Black Rat snakes, saw one in my back yard about a month ago, pretty harmless, eat the mice which is a good thing!

Oh, the joys of country living! I killed a scorpion in my dishwasher yesterday. You have to keep your eyes peeled for sure.

    This is a great post.
Someone must have been doing a rain dance in our neck of the woods, we’ve had so much rain this summer that things are as lush as a rain forest.
