I can’t believe I’m writing this post because I can’t believe I made soap bars! Granted, this is the easy soap version, but who knows, I may tackle other soap recipes later on!
I’m far from crunchy, organic, or whatever you wanna call it but awhile back, I was reading an article about how everything we use, is filled with crap. I didn’t even know what 75% of the ingredients were and on some products, a couple that were kinda scary. I started thinking about some things I use that are close to my body and soap came to mind. I looked online at recipes and thought I’d try to make my own. I’m proud to say, it was the easiest thing I’ve ever done, y’all!
During this same week, I also foaming soap, lip balm, body butter, and some other goodies for Christmas. Those recipes are coming later!
One of the things I had to do, was gather the ingredients. I found Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Amazon to be my friend when making these purchases for all these items. I wanted to make three different kinds to offer at a craft show. The three I chose were:
- Goatsmilk Soap with Valor and Oatmeal
- Shea Butter Soap with Peppermint (I used the Peppermint Oil from the Raindrop Kit that Young Living offers)
- Goatsmilk Soap with Honey, Oatmeal, and Christmas Spirit
Obviously you can use whatever essential oils you want, but I only use the best, Young Living. I chose Valor for a calming oil, peppermint oil to feel invigorated, and Christmas Spirit to get in the holiday mood! It has a cinnamon orange smell and I love it!
The great thing about making your own soap, is that you know exactly what’s going into it and on your skin. The added essential oils are a bonus, that are also beneficial in many ways.
Have y’all made soap? If so, how do you make yours and what do you put in it? Do share!
- 10 ounces Goats Milk Soap Base
- ¼ teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
- 20 drops Essential Oils (your choice)
- Soap mold
- Cut up your soap base in cubes and place them in a glass bowl.
- You can use a double broiler or microwave to melt your soap base. If using microwave, heat it for thirty second intervals, stirring between each interval until your base is melted. I used 10 ounces of soap base, and it took about three thirty second intervals {plus stirring} to melt it completely.
- As soon as it's melted, you'll add your vitamin E oil and essential oils of choice, then stir. It's at this point that you would also add your choice of oats, honey, or anything else you want to add. I used about two tablespoons of honey when making my honey bars.
- Immediately pour into your molds and allow to cool completely.
This is so fun! We must be on the same page because I have been wanting to try to make soap lately too! Glad to hear it is such a simple thing to do!
This turns out so perfectly!!
Thanks for sharing your recipes and knowledge for soap making. I’m new to soap making so I try to search for free information and recipes!
