In the past few months, there have been numerous break-ins in our local town. Thieves are stealing from homes and vehicles and getting away with it. Our community has taken some steps to catch these five finger discounters but it’s important to protect your valuables, particularly when it comes to your overpriced smartphone!
A while back, I shared that I had partnered with Asurion, a company that I met at Mom 2.0 and more importantly, has been a company we have used for many years. I was excited to work with them because it was such an authentic fit. Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing personal cellphone stories and how Asurion has ‘saved the day’. Today though, I’m sharing how to deal with the dreaded lost or stolen cellphone.
I have an iPhone, as does my whole family, so that will be the focus of most of my stories. As you know, these smartphones aren’t cheap. In fact, I’d call them overpriced but it is what it is and I focus on taking as good care of it as I can. That doesn’t just mean providing it with a sturdy case, cleaning it, and backing it up. It also means, insuring it. Asurion offers mobile protection for drops and spills (we’ve had those too) but also for lost and stolen phones. ALL of our cellphones are insured, always have been. We feel like it’s the one ‘warranty’ type of investment that is worth the money. And when you live on a ranch with boys, cows, and horses, cellphone insurance is definitely a must. I recall Tyler actually losing his phone, this Summer, in a pasture when he was ridin’ his colt. He spent the next couple of hours tracking down the same route and finally found it but he was lucky. The chances of him never finding it were slim and had he made a bigger circle, he wouldn’t have found it. Can you imagine trotting in this huge pasture, not even realizing your phone has come out of your pocket? MIDDLE OF A HUGE PASTURE Y’ALL! Lucky duck he is! There have numerous times where I’ve left my phone in a bathroom and walked out. Thankfully I remembered about 10 steps out the front door but it’s a common thing to leave your cellphone laying somewhere and walk off.
As you can see, Asurion has came to our rescue more than once. If you’re like me, you have everything on your phone! I have important emails, notes, PHOTOS, voice memos, and more. The thought of losing it would just make me sick but the one less thing I’d have to worry about it getting a replacement. When we have filed a claim through Asurion, we’ve gotten our phone the very next day. And while there is standard fee (more if you have an iPhone), it’s still tons less than going in the store and buying a replacement because I’m sure just like me, you’re under contract, again, for the next 2 years.
I wanna know if you have cellphone insurance and if you have ever lost your cellphone or had it stolen. If you do or don’t have mobile protection, tell me why. While you ponder on that a while, here are some statistics and info for you to look over. I couldn’t believe that it’s estimated that over $5 billion worth of cellphones are lost and stolen every year. BILLION y’all! That’s crazy! Protect your investments and if you’re blogger like me, a cellphone is a necessary tool and very much a valuable piece of technology. And like I said, we’ve had Asurion insurance on all our smartphones for many years. We have never had one single issue with them and love getting our replacement phones fast!

Disclosure: As I stated previously, I have partnered with Asurion, in a compensated campaign, in efforts to share with you my personal experiences of having mobile protection. It was an authentic fit and all opinions are my own, as always.

I bet my college kids would benefit greatly from this! Thanks for the info!

I haven’t had a cell phone stolen, but that probably means I”m due. LOL Good info, Lori!
I’m usually pretty blase about things like buying extra insurance–but maybe I should think some more about that. I don’t know what i’d do if my cell phone was stolen.
My cellphone is insured, because it’s a smartphone and overpriced, um, I mean expensive. The rest of my family have basic phones, so I didn’t bother to insure them. I haven’t personally had my phone stolen, but my friend’s husband did. What a pain that was! He never did recover it, and it was just a few months old.
We have had our iphone stolen before and could not track it down. We also insure ours through verizon and asurion and had no problems getting a replacement. It was way cheaper than buying a new one because we are always under contract. it’s a neverending cycle isn’t?
When the 4S first came out, we bought it and not two days later, I lost it on our vacation. I was so upset. Since I only had a few days, I didn’t install any apps to track or anything and never did find it. sad :( We did not have insurance. We do now!
$5B worth? I would never thought the number would be so high. We have teenagers, therefore, we are insured. We would be crazy not too! Oh, and ours is through Asurion as well.
