If you’re a subscriber, I’d love for you to click through and see the new look of My Wooden Spoon. Of course you can get an idea with the screen shots but I’d still love for you stop by and say howdy!
Thanks to the lovely WordPress Mama, Daisy Olsen (who is also my blog’s saving grace), I now have a new redesign on a clean and very well built theme. Some of you have asked what the theme is and I’m happy to share. It’s a child theme of Genesis Theme Framework by Studiopress. Daisy has put a LOT of hard work into making sure my site is clean, unbroken, and running smoothly at all times. I can’t say thank you enough for her hard work. I hope she knows she’s appreciated.
First off, I changed the logo and tagline. I’m sad to say that I decided to retire the old, “Where it’s perfectly legal to use a little pot” with a more generic, family friendly one, “Food, Family, and Finds from A Cowboy’s Wife”. I know…not near as fun as the other one but it’s more of a business move on my part. The logo is one I had made a long time ago and while very simply, I feel it stands on its own.
The front page displays sections of some of the main categories here at My Wooden Spoon with the slide show featuring some recipes. I’ve added a place in the sidebar for those who want to subscribe to the monthly newsletter, which has also been revamped and will be sent out on my birthday (March 30). Why my birthday? Because I wanted a present to be involved but the present will actually go to one of my subscribers. In other words, only those who have subscribed will be in the running to win!
One of the cool things I added was a coupon database! The awesome Deal Seeking Mom (and her crew) has built this handy database where you can search for a coupon. If it’s a printable, it gives you the link to print it and if it’s not, it will tell you which coupon insert it’s in so that you can cut it and use it that way! What a useful resource to have! You can still click on the coupons tab and print coupons as before but not there’s an added sub-tab that takes you to this coupon database. Also, if you want to submit a coupon, you now have that option as well. Thanks to Tara and her developers, I am able to embed this on my site. I’m doing this just to give you the option but if you really want to save money and get great deals, I recommend Tara and Alyssa.
As you can see in the photo below, there is a tab, Recipe Index, where you can find a list of every recipe here but you can still look under the “recipes” tab in the pink bar and see all the different categories.
The “Shop” tab takes you to my Amazon Store but the sub-tab under shop is eCookbooks. There a few free ones for download and some for purchase ($5). I’ve added some free ones to the My Wooden Spoon Fan page on Facebook; ones that will only be for free there and not here.
For the future of My Wooden Spoon
I have a few things that I will be adding to this site like a new foodie community and new food photo contest! So many exciting things I have planned and look forward to sharing them with you as they launch.
I hope you enjoy the new layout and design and if you’re not already a regular subscriber of My Wooden Spoon, I hope you consider becoming one.
