It’s been one year, almost 4 months since my dad passed away. November 13, his birthday came and went and I thought about him all day. I really wasn’t sure what to do on that day and so I did nothing. Today though, I felt like making a memorial ornament and decided to test the Cricut Explore at my moms. I’ll be honest, I haven’t had a chance to use the Cricut much but it seems easy enough. So today, I’m sharing the angel wings memorial ornament I did.
I was thinking about fishing. I can recall numerous moments on the boat, fishing, and even chasing birds. Bobby, my dad, would even take me and mom fishing at night and I even remember a snake encounter! Bobby loved to fish and always included me and my boys when he could. Thankfully, each of them will have those memories for the rest of their lives. So when I was pondering on what to make, I knew fishing had to be somehow part of it and since it was a memorial of sorts, I instantly thought of angel wings. And this is where I dive into the Cricut Design zone……
I basically typed in a few things that were water related when I found one under ‘waves’ that looked like an ornament! I was excited because that was one less step for me to find a two in one template. Then I looked through the angel wings. I liked several but loved the lacy look angel wings. There was only one problem though, there was an angel woman in the middle and I needed that left wing, but I also needed a right wing. So, while it did waste paper, I printed two of them, mirroring one so that the wing would be flipped. Hey, I’m Macgyvering it y’all!
As far as the sayings, because my whole ornament is all in white, I needed to make sure there was some depth to the saying so that it didn’t just lay flat. I searched for ‘gone fishing’ and the one I chose was exactly what I needed! Must have been my lucky day right?! Actually, you can find pretty much any image at Cricut Design and if you can’t, you can always use their super awesome Print then Cut technology. I haven’t tackled that yet, but plan to!
From there, I cut everything out! After the ball ornament was cut out, I used it to trace a circle around the photograph I printed with my dad fishing, and then used scissors to cut that out. With a little bit of tacky glue, it all came together.
And there you have it folks….It’s pretty simple and basic but my theme was a white Christmas so I stayed with the white and the Cricut make it really easy to do. I actually love it though because it makes the black and white photo stand out. Every year we buy a new decoration for our tree but this year, we don’t have to. In loving memory of my dad, who has gone fishin’……
