Getting the Best Sleep I Can

By A Cowboy's Wife | January 15, 2014

Hey y’all! Remember, to help get your year off right, I’ll be sharing some tips for a great start with Team Kellogg’s! This is my second post and since the brand is regular in our home and I’m proud to be part of their family!

Sleep. What is that, right?  If you’re like me, you don’t get enough of it.  The thing is, sleep is super duper important and it can affect our overall health.  Just like with kids, it’s important have a bedtime routine for yourself.  That’s where I come in! I’m gonna share some tips with y’all that will hopefully help get you all the beauty sleep you want.

ESTABLISH A ROUTINE

Before actually going to sleep, there are a few things you can do to help set the mood.

  • An hour or so before bedtime, slow the pace down.  Try reading or playing a calm game of cards, checkers, or maybe you have one on your iPad.  Just relax.
  • Stretch. What is one of the first things an animal does when they wake up?  Yep, they stretch.  So, what I’ve found, is stretching before I go to bed, relaxes my mind and my body.  It has made a huge difference on my sleeping patterns.
  • Take a bath!  I actually prefer showers but when I’ve had a hard day, a bath before bed really helps my body decompress from the day.

CREATE THE PERFECT SLEEP ENVIRONMENT

Oh man, I’m terrible at this.  I’m one of those that throws everything in my room before company comes, and then takes days to clean that up.  Really though, your bedroom should reflect all things calm, comfortable, and soothing.  I think we mostly think of pillows and sheets, and those are very, very important, but the rest of your room matters as well.  Even painting your room can change your mood, but something that has helped me sleep better, is a clean room.  A dirty house causes me stress.  I’m finding that a clean & tidy room has made a big difference on my mood, the minute I walk into my room.  Make it pretty!  Add a homeopathic candle to your nightstand for soothing relief. Lavender is a favorite of mine because it’s calming.  Pillows, sheets, and flipping your mattress all should be considered of course! Oh! Don’t forget comfy pajamas y’all!

RECOGNIZING YOUR EATING AND DRINKING HABITS BEFORE BED

Obviously what you eat is important to your overall health, even with your sleep habits.  Eating earlier than later is always a good idea so that the food doesn’t sit there all night, or even keep you up all night.  This goes for water. It makes no sense to drink a ton of water right before you go down because then you’ll be up all night tinkling away.

All these things will hopefully help you get the best sleep you can. After you’ve had a great night’s sleep, you MUST have a great breakfast to start your day. We often switch up our breakfast meals but Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats and Kellogg’s Corn Flakes are two of my top favorites! I hope these tips will help y’all get a great sleep so that you can wake up to a great start!! If you need more solutions for a great start, there’s a whole bunch of them here! Check it out!
