The Blogher End

By A Cowboy's Wife | July 25, 2008

With all the parties I’ve been telling you about, I have failed to mention that I did go to a couple of sessions and I networked like crazy.  I found the sessions boring because I felt they were really geared towards the newbies.  I enjoyed meeting all the food bloggers though and was completely embarrassed to have to stand up in front of them all to introduce my food blog in 10 words.  I don’t like when all eyes are on me at all!

I met several lovely ladies from the various companies like Leapfrog, Vtech, and Scholastic.  In fact, Amanda was super nice and I had the pleasure to sit by her during the Rocco lunch:) Oh, and we have a Scholastic giveaway coming soon!

Me and Amanda from Scholastic:)

I also met Emily Post, author of the most wonderful set of children’s books ever!  Oh she has other books too but I would love to have had the manners book for little ones.  I really met to buy it before I left and completely forgot.  She’s absolutely delightful and it was an honor to meet her.

Me and Emily:)

As great as the Blogher food was, it was nice to get out of the hotel and eat at my own diner.  Yeah, I’m everywhere over there including the airport!  What?  You didn’t know I had a chain??  Well, duh!  I’ve got pictures to prove it:)

Me and my diner:)

So I was asked by a gal earlier if I felt intimidated at all by anyone and my answer is yes.  The three people that I wanted a picture with but didn’t even approach, were Megan from Velveteen Mind, Bossy from i am bossy, and yes…Erin from Queen of Spain.  Why didn’t I approach them?  I don’t know really.  Maybe it was the fact that every time I saw Megan, she wasn’t smiling and I was afraid it was a “bad time”.  Maybe this short and fat girl didn’t want to stand next to Bossy’s beauty & grace.  And Erin, well…..I’m not sure how to take her.  Do you judge by things you hear?……no…..would I sound stupid talking to her in my ol’ Texas accent and if not, what would I even say to her.  These were just some of the things that kept me from approaching these people.  Maybe another day, another time.

So the highlight of the weekend?  Hmmmm, there were so many great things and VERY fun times but I would have to say it was Heather’s words at the closing keynote.  Not ’cause she’s the famous Dooce but because what she said made so much sense.  It made me sit back and think about what kind of relationship I want to have with my readers, as well as the friends & family that read my blogs.  She’s this famous, wealthy woman that treats you like you’re her best friend.  She doesn’t act all high and mighty, she’s real.

She said something that I loved.  She said that she reads every single comment, backlink, etc.  She said that if we the readers can take the time to comment or reference her, it’s her job to read every single one of them.  Even though she doesn’t always respond, she reads them.

This is exactly how I feel.  I may not always respond but I am ALWAYS reading your comments, your blogs, and thinking about you.  I hope you all know that!

Thank you Heather for reminding what’s most important.
A Cowboy's Wife and Dooce

That’s it about Blogher.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna finally get some rest.  My brain is fried, my body hurts, and my big toes are still numb from wearing high heels at the Macy’s party.  If any of you are trained from one of those massage therapy schools, please drive to Sweetwater, TX and give me a massage.  I desperately need one;)

Woman! We did meet! I talked to you about how much I adore your banner and how recognizable your “brand” is! Come on! Don’t make me feel bad! I was a smiling supersmiler!

Or, um, maybe I started to get totally saturated toward the end and I felt like I was smiling but I was actually walking around like a zombie? Hmmm… that is entirely possible.

I say we meet up in New Orleans and I’ll show you the most smiling good time you could ever handle. Deal? I’m there. Because there is never a bad time for me to hang out with friends.

LOL…….That was you? I remember that but maybe I didn’t realize you were THE Megan from Velveteen Mind until after the fact!!!! I didn’t mean it in a bad way. I just figured you were focused or tired?…LOL

Really I wanted a picture with you but you were soooooo busy. Everyone just seemed to flock around you and I hated to interrupt things.

OMG, I feel like such a jackass now. Thank you…I deserve that.

New Orleans huh??? Hmmmm, I’ll have see…I was lucky to get to go to this one! :)

You are so close to my hometown. Making me homesick.

PS. Erin, Megan and Bossy intimidate me too but I threw myself at them and they were all awesome. Never be afraid to throw yourself at people. :)

I’m so excited for you, ok, and a little jealous ;) that you got to go! That’s so awesome and I would totally get excited about the stuff you did – like the view from the plane, etc! It’s been inspiring to watch you grow your brand and become so solid in your place in this online world!

I cannot believe that the highlight of the conference wasn’t getting your photo taken with the Red Stapler!! LOL.

Next year, say hi to Bossy and QofS. Despite Bossy’s utter stunning beauty, she is quite kind. And QofS knows EVERYONE, so if you ever need to connect, she is your woman.

It was lovely to meet you, if only for a moment!

You wouldn’t approach Bossy, but you did approach Dooce? Both are stunning beauties and successful bloggers too. But Bossy is just so dang easy to talk to and cool and fun. Next time you should definitely go up to her. She’ll make you feel like a million bucks.

    Ok, only if you ask.

BUT seriously. I wish we would have said hello…that being said I was so busy it would have been ‘hi!’ ‘cool!’ ‘bye!’ but hey, I DON’T BITE

    Love your recap!

Never ever ever pass up an opportunity to say hello to someone. The worst thing that could happen is….

    1. You will make their day and they will LOVE to take a photo with you.
    2. They will give you the gas face and walk away

Either way, you won’t have any regrets!

    :)

How funny! I wouldn’t have pictured you holding back with fellow Bloggers! I mean they are BLoggers! We all tell about our lives and post pictures. Reveal intimate secrets, well I don’t … but others might! Post back and forth and get to be great pals. I’m afraid I would just walk on up and give my “new” friends a big hug! There are several of my new friends, I would love to chat in person with! Just push all those other people outta the way! I bet there are so many people there! It’s probably overwhelming! I am glad you survived your jitters! Great photos! Looks like it was fun! Next year you just walk on over and intrduce yourself, they are probably feeling like they can’t approach you and all your glory!!
