This annual event is organized each year by SNAP, Senior Nutrition Activities Program, and benefits senior citizen programs and Meals on Wheels.
I’m ashamed to say that I have never attended this event but I knew this year, it was something I really wanted to do. Meals on Wheels delivered to my grandmother and it’s always been something I’ve donated to so I was excited to go for the first time!
This event had at least 20 food vendors all under one roof and it was awesome to truly get a taste of Sweetwater.
When you first walk in, you get a tray and then you start one side and make your way around. For the most part, you are getting sample sizes of everything but oh my goodness y’all, it adds up to be a lot! I didn’t even get half of what was offered and this was my tray!
While there were your corporate type vendors like Dominoes and Wendys, I also spotted some amazing local restaurants like Sandra’s who brought homemade chicken & dumplings!! I have to say, they tasted just like mine, a recipe I learned from mom and grandma.
Did you know that Schlotzsky’s makes their mac & cheese from scratch? It was pretty great! If you stick around long enough, you could even win a prize! They had some AWESOME things to give away, including cash.
It’s important to remember the why. SNAP delivers hundreds of meals a week and it’s all because of donations and volunteers. This event is vital to ensure they can continue doing that for the disabled elderly. Please check your local listings to find out if they hold a “Taste of” event your area and if they do, GO!
Anyone interested in donating or volunteering can call the center at 325-236-6344. Donations can be made to
